2016 Paul McCartney compilation album - "Pure McCartney" *

well you had to make room for almost the entire flaming pie album and of course he included 4 songs from some of hos post 2000 releases

 

If there was a fifth disc you could include:

The four FITD singles

I don't care for the comp as released, but in 2016 a little nip and tuck was very easy. I removed 12 songs, added 15 different ones and got a four disc set I listen to often in the car. I also changed the order of a few things.

We need to have a talk buddy. I'm going to make you an offer that you won't be able to refuse. And you will keep Bip Bop on the compilation. Understand?

 

I've owned the album since it was released plus two CD versions, but I haven't listened to Bip Bop in 40 years. Only McCartney could proudly put that one on a career spanning comp.

 

Well, in that case, you need to fix up your priorities.

I'd keep these three:

Early Days
Let Me Roll It
Souvenir

 

Let Me Roll It has just never been a personal favorite for some reason. John does Lennon better than Paul does Lennon.
I actually like Early Days as a song, but the old man vocal leaves me sad. The same thing goes for My Valentine.

 

i love "let me roll it"

 

I'm not that big of a fan of it, but I understand its popularity and expect that tune to be on any Wings overview.

 

Today is the one year anniversary of Pure McCartney. Where's the Anniversary reissue?

 

Let's just hope it has bonus download only tracks.

 

Maybe they can add Mumbo in as a bonus track.

So there, sticking with the plan. No unreleased songs...almost all were singles left off the 4 disc box and adds a couple albums left off (Driving Rain and Run Devil Run).

As far as removals, keeping in mind the above disc and staying with the same album:

Bip Bop swapped for Dear Friend
Winedark Open Sea swapped for C'mon People/Cosmically Conscious
Girlfriend swapped for London Town

To me those were the 3 biggest head shakers in the box............

 

That would make a great 5th disc, and I would say your swaps would be improvements. Nice work.

yeah just like the "downloads only" disc from the "Flowers" box, the burned disc fits in the last slot nicely!

I know Arnie, my issues is how do you leave all those top 40 hits off and put those 3 songs. Otherwise I like some of the "unusual choices" like "Don't Let It Bring You Down", "Big Barn Bed" and "Good Times Coming/Feel The Sun"............

But yes, I'd certainly rank "Dear Friend" much higher than "Bip Bop". (Just don't tell anyone that I said so ...)

 

I probably would have also subbed out "Souvenir", I like it but something has to go to get "Young Boy" on there!
