Well Wings isn't being recognized and probably never will, probably being viewed as an extension of McCartney's solo career and he's already in. Denny has acknowledged this as a reason he won't get in for Wings.

I don't think of The Smiths as 'fun'. Especially when compared to the rock bands of the 80s. And I LOVE The Smiths. This is a worm-hole that might be dangerous to go down here. :)

From the Rolling Stone article, it sounds like she received an terrific induction. Perhaps it just wasn’t televised?

Taking the evening in a different direction, Brittany Howard then came out to welcome Sister Rosetta Tharpe into the Hall of Fame as an Early Influence. Instead of a traditional address, the Alabama Shakes singer narrated a video about Tharpe’s tremendous importance to rock history, featuring vintage testimonials by the likes of Johnny Cash and Robbie Robertson, before strapping on a guitar to play Tharpe's 1938 classic “That’s All.” A supergroup of late night television musical directors – Questlove on drums and Paul Shaffer on piano – backed her. Shaffer’s longtime guitarist Felicia Collins stepped up to the mic to wrap up the set with “Strange Things Are Happening Every Day.” Collins has been a quiet mainstay of Hall of Fame performances for decades, so it was wonderful to finally see her take the spotlight.

This more or less elaborates on what I mentioned - there was no formal induction speech, they played the video and then the performers played.

Whether or not this is could be considered terrific is up to personal preference I suppose. I certainly appreciated it more than having to sit through someone's relative giving a long, rambling acceptance speech...

I really dont get people putting down artists or bands because theyre not worthy in their eyes. How does it affect you if X or Y band gets in and Z didnt.

I dont like Rush or Greeen Day or Tupac but i dont care if they got in or not.

Thanks for posting that, but it only made it worse that she got cheated. She was undeniably Rock'n'Roll, she's the direct link between Clarksdale Blues and Elvis Presley, her guitar licks were swiped by Pete Townshend...and she gets relegated to the kiddy table of the show? Sorry, but it was undeniably ham-fisted of the HoF to not take the opportunity to properly honor a gay Black woman who invented as much of Rock'n'Roll as Chuck Berry.

Seriously, watch that collection of solos I posted and tell me you haven't seen every single one of her licks and moves played by someone else in the RnRHoF.

I have several problems with the Hall, most of them being about who is still waiting to be inducted (or even nominated, hello, Iron Maiden). But their recent trend of inducting bands a year or two after key members have passed away after waiting years (decades) to be voted in has sorta turned me off for good. Let's celebrate these folks while they are still alive. Why wasn't Deep Purple a HOF band before 2015? Was their output the previous 15 years the reason they made it over the hump? Of course not.

Agree with everything you said, except to make a very small distinction that it's probably fairer to say she was bisexual. Not that any of that is particularly relevant. It's the music.

Deep Purple should have been inducted in the 90's. As for their output over the last 15 years....that was the icing on the cake; which is clearly something most bands of their age (The Who, Stones 'n' Kinks) didn't achieve.

Helps to also have family already in the business to get a foot in the door quickly. Wasn't all on merit or hard work.

By the time they got through the six-song tribute to Nina Simone (no other artist performed more than four), which was preceded by a long-winded acceptance speech by her brother, the induction of and performance by The Moody Blues (the final segment of the night), felt like an afterthought.

Very true, but it's important to mention her. I'm very glad Brittany Howard inducted her, but seriously, how many other Black female guitarists can anyone come up with off the top of their heads? Brittany Howard, Joan Armatrading...

Does being in a HoF change the sound of someone's musical output or alter their sporting achievements. Why do you need a HoF to celebrate these things. This isn't a dig but is it an American thing. I can't see any attraction whatsoever. But if it makes you feel better when listening to music or when watching baseball, then good stuff.

I saw the Moodies at my local casino about 5 years ago.

They have so many hits that they played the ones they wouldn't be playing live that night as the house music before the show!

I don't mind it in sport where greatness is somewhat more objective.

The R&RHoF was already getting far too subjective about 10 years in.

the band has 13 top 40 hits in the USA and one of them is pre Justin Hayward so they could have played those 12 top 40 hits if they wanted to
