Not having heard any of these I'd go with John Prine.

I have only heard two of these. I didn't care for the Arctic Monkeys album all the way through, though I liked a couple of the songs. The Cat Power was a bit of a disappointment, though I will admit to only having found the time to listen to it once.

I'll abstain from voting in this grouping.

The new Melody's Echo Chamber has been one of my most listened to new releases this year, a very enjoyable effort, bursting at the seams with different ideas. Fans of modern psychedelia would be well advised to pick this up. I do want to check out the Malkmus some more.

Just bought the magazine. Am I miserable or did you also find the year end lists really dull?

The only interesting album in this half is Idles. Politics, jokes and great guitars.

Nice to see the Lemon Twigs get a nod. That album kind of sank like a stone soon after it was released.

I saw them on tv. They so7nded really bad. Are they a 70s prog tribute type band. Or did I just hear a really poor song.

    Genuine question

Arctic Monkeys' latest grew on me a bit after a "meh" reaction on first listen. Idles' record is stronger IMO even though a few songs haven't clicked. I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I've enjoyed Tracey Thorn's new album. Julia Holter's Aviary is my favorite of the bunch. Not the easiest listen, but I find myself digging it more each time I come back to it.

I prefer this list to the top 25 list.

Anna Calvi, Lemon Twigs and Arctic Monkeys for me.

My album of the year though is McCartney's Egypt Station.

They're not a tribute band, it's just that they love that kind of music (and 60s). They were brought up listening to The Beach Boys, The Beatles etc , and were also influenced by their Dad who was a musician back then (I don't know if he achieved any kind of fame).

About half a dozen strong contenders here, but I went with the Lemon Twigs just because I think it was a really ballsy move to do something so deliberately polarizing.

I voted for Julia Holter's Aviary. It's a very long, ambitious, experimental work, but one that I find very interesting and somehow comforting. Chamber electronic pop? I'm not sure, but it sounds gorgeous much of the time. I'm surprised that it is ranked so low; it hasn't received the "buzz" that he previous album received.

Not dull, so much as a reminder that ir’s very difficult to keep up.

I was so disappointed by Holter's last one after the brilliance of her first three that Aviary feels slightly like it's trying too hard to reassert herself.

  19. Surprised & sad to not see Paul McCartney here too(should have been on tge 1-25 list!!)- also as fave a release as I had this year (along with Yo La Tengo- who got my vote in 1-25 poll)... although the forthcoming Jeff Tweedy solo album could give it a run...

In this poll John Prime got my vote

Idles is my favorite album in this list, and also better than any of their top 25. However, it probably won't even make my own top ten for the year.

Great to see Gwenno in here but if I had to choose just one it would be "lunar surface on a Saturday night", the new Arctic Monkeys!

John Prine for me although I'm unfamiliar with most of these. Father Time is doing its damage.
