The MM remix was done with Bowie's input and blessing, anything now would be akin to Hendrix's Midnight Lightning, Crash Landing albums. Don't meddle and add new instruments after the artist has died. No no no!

All this speculation is entertaining, but can we get an official announcement? Anyone remember what month ANCIANT and the others were announced?

If you have heard the MMremix of Time Will Crawl you'd see it's fairly easy to save NLMD.

Sure, you just need a world class drummer, a highly sought-after arranger and a quartet of virtuosi, an engineer/producer closely trusted by the artist... bet they can knock it out over lunchtime ;)

Of course I've heard it. I prefer the original.

Interesting to hear Visconti say that Bowie wanted to do things his own way (then contradict himself later in the interview by saying he'd sold out!). He said something very similar in the tribute he paid after he died. Still it begs the question what does he mean? What was Bowie's way? Tony?

why are you even asking this question? He means the Bowie did it the way that he wanted to. Simple really.

Let me spell it out for you. I'm suggesting that the man who more than any other had a ringside seat to observe Bowie in the studio might provide us with a little more insight into how he did it. Do you get it now?

Why do you feel that it is your God given right to know the insurance and outs of their professional relationship?
Sorry if my original reply sounded rude but your post just read as kind of needy and erm.. a bit daft.
But never mind, you managed to say what you intended in the end with a little gentle coaxing.

What of it? I don't see that Ziggy is any more or less a sell-out than Let's Dance. If "sell-out" is making art commercial that that describes much of pop/rock. It's not a bad thing. If you want non-commercial art you can find it everywhere.

    Yeah/no.
So long as the original versions are forever available, I don't see why not. Bowie gave his blessing to many remixes whether he had direct input or not.
Saying that, I would not want previously unreleased material seeing the light of day that had been subsequently tampered with.

    Apology accepted.

  16. IMHO the only thing better about the remix is the replacement of the drum machine with real drums. Otherwise, the song lost the magic of the original.

I think they turned it from a disposable pop tune into a DAVID BOWIE song. And I think there is a great Bowie album buired in the mix of NLMD that should be birthed. The remix of Time Will Crawl is proof.

The original will always be there to listen to, but just like the Station To Station, Ziggy and Lodger remixes I want to hear a different interpretation of NLMD.

    No worries.
You are not the first person on here to post something daft and nonsensical.
A good idea is to perhaps think about what you want to say before stabbing at your keyboard..

I agree. The mastering has been an insult to the Bowie legacy.

But we don't know what has already been done and blessed by Bowie. Didn't Visconti say Bowie left detailed notes about how to handle the catalog?
