The comedy series category is impressive with four quality single-camera shows ("Arrested Development", "Curb Your Enthusiasm", "The Office", and "Scrubs"). Of course, this almost insures that highly rated traditional multi-camera stinker "Two-and-a-Half Men" will win.

After dominating the nominations last year, the cast of Desperate Housewives is nearly shut out, and no major noms for Lost.

It's criminal that animated series get no mention. Do they still have an animation category?

Ken: Surprised me a bit that "Earl" didn't make the cut, but, as you said, with this group of shows, it would be tough to push one out for it.

Any Best Drama Series list that does not include "Deadwood" is seriously flawed.

Let's not forget Veronica Mars and lead actress Kristin Bell. Even though this show's second season did not live up to the standards of the first season, it was still one of the best shows on television.

I like DEADWOOD, too, and what about THE WIRE?

There's so much competition now, you wonder of they should have parallel nominations for cable and network, or entirely separate categories for such well-established genres as "Police Procedural," "Forensics," and "Ethnic Based Sketch Comedy."

    I agree! :realmad:

I am so furious that yet again one of the best actresses on television, Lauren Graham, is shut out! There's no excuse for this.

I don't think Lauren Graham had her best season this year, although she probably deserves a make-up nomination for previous oversights. Personally, I think the fact that Kelly Bishop has never been nominated in the supporting category is an even more gross oversight.

...unless, of course, "Deadwood" aired outside the period of eligibility for the 2006 Emmys, which I believe it did.

Season 2 aired from March to May of 2005 and was eligible in 2005. Season 3 did not premiere until June of 2006, and will not be eligible until 2007. I recommend that you Ian McShane fans rechannel your outrage on Hugh Laurie or Edward James Olmos' behalf until next year. :)

I saw a clip of some Emmy bigwig explaining in vague terms how rules were changed this year so that "the same shows are not nominated every year"
