I hate the word "reboot" Series aren't "booted".

It would make way more sense to continue the franchise with Kate (Yvonne Strahovski) in the main role withJack as a mentor who isn't the focus or in the show every episode.

If I recall correctly the Kate character was relatively well received so not sure why they need to reboot the series completely when they have a capable replacement ready to go with a backstory already filled in so the story could pick right up with a new season without wasting time learning about another character.

I would agree... I had read somewhere that she would be the main focus, but as is the case with many shows, that could change. If anyone should take over the lead role, she would be a good start. If it's a total (sorry) reboot, then the whole Jack-Bauer-in-Russia thing will go away, or be addressed in a following season.

I'd be in for a show with Kate as the main character.

I wouldn't mind her just doing a season of 12 episodes again............just as long as it revolves around locating and freeing Jack for the series after.

I seem to remember watching this show on TV for a few years on NBC, but back then, it was called "CHUCK"!?!

I think they could come back and pull Jack out of Russia. Chloe needs a bit of redemption. And Kate could be the lead with Zachary Levy playing a re-occuring role as one of her team members. Sutherland would of course make the season ending cameo as an emaciated Jack Bauer being carried out of a hole in the ground. Leading to yet another action packed "Jack-is-Back" opportunity for the following season.

Thank you for reminding me of how ridiculous some of the plot twists on this show were! :biglaugh:

  12. Yeah, once the plot twists became more and more absurd, I realized I had fallen into a spy soap opera and it was time to give it up. I didn't watch the new series at all.

Same. I also got tired of all the torture porn and scaremongering about Middle Eastern terrorists.

"Reboot" and "Reset." Is this a television show or a Commodore 64?

I think at this point, the character of Jack Bauer needs a good rest from screens, not necessarily permanently, but enough time for us to actually want to see him back in action, last year's excellent Live Another Day limited series is still a bit too soon to bring him back, and besides, Kiefer simply isn't ready or willing at this point to play Jack again, so it's better to wait and see if this new incarnation is either any good and/or if it fails to connect with the wider audience, then by that time, Kiefer might be willing to return one final time to give Jack a proper send-off... he says he won't, but don't forget that for seven years, Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass swore they'd never do another Bourne film, and for thirty YEARS, Harrison Ford swore he would never again play Han Solo, 'nuff said.

I'm patient, I can wait... until then (if ever), we still have a brand spanking new mini-series of The X-Files to look forward to next year...

It was time for Jack to go. I like the premise of the show and have seen every season but I grew to dislike Jack over time. He became more and more intolerable with each passing season. As someone pointed out above, the story may be centered around Kate freeing Jack, but Jack has to go in another direction. There has to be some kind of character arc for him that steers away from the endless anger and torture. There was some redemption for his character at the end of season 7, but he went right back to his old ways in season 8. Live Another Day was horrible, in my opinion.

We could discuss whether Jack has overstayed his welcome or not, or whether Live Another Day was worthy or not. But this much is true: Chloe DEFINITELY overstayed her welcome with Live Another Day.

The show runners have indicated that they are not entirely sure that Nina is dead, or whether the scene where it appeared Jack killed her was in his mind. So maybe Nina can come back now :)

Both. The scripts were written on a Commodore 64.

She was a great villain in the first season, although it still appears that the writers just decided halfway through that she was a double agent, which is why you can't go back and say "oh yeah, I should have seen the signs".

She was pretty good in season 2.

By season 3 it was just getting silly.

I am not interested in 24 to continue without Jack, although I might give it a shot if Jackie Bauer stuck around. Otherwise, the whole concept is now a relic.

I loved Nina, but I really hope that isn't true. That's just ludicrous.

Chloe started out as a great character, playing the socially inept hacker with a keen sense of snark.

But in the last (mini) season she was just the pits: Annoying, and with really unflattering got makeup that appeared to have been applied by a 15 year old.
