Those actually are pretty rare. But who cares, really?

At first I thought you meant someone was willing to pay $275 for just an obi. After looking at the linked auction, however, it's clear that the obi comes with the cd, etc. Still ridiculously priced, as far as I am concerned, but I would never pay $100+ for a cd regardless of how rare it was whereas there are other forum members who use the word "bargain" to describe astronomical prices for some of the DCC gold cds.

Open DCC Ringo goes for 200 plus
Open DCC Aqualung goes for 150 - 200 (usually 200 on eBay)

Doors S/T DCC is about 30-50 so the OBI here is going to wind up adding way more than 275....

as the owner of many CD's I paid 100USD plus for I don't understand why you would not pay xxx dollars for something you really wanted? Why short yourself because of the price if you can afford it?

You can always eat hot dogs instead of steak ;)

I'm not a collector so don't know why people pay high dollar for OBI's, but that's their game and if they want to pay that it's up to them.

Don't knock it till you try it. :D

  9. I'm not saying the price is justifiable, but the DCC Gold CD's with the Japanese OBI's are very uncommon (I'm getting really tired of the term 'rare'), and make an already highly collectible item, even more appetizing to collectors.

At that price I wouldn't touch it, but at the $100 range I would. My DCC Gold CD of Heart 'Dreamboat Annie' has the Japanese OBI, and while it has a cool factor, it in no way improves the sound of the disc itself.

Does the seller throw in the cute little stands?

I used to toss out the obis so I've only got a few of them.

There were a bunch of DCC gold discs with OBI strips on eBay yesterday and all are gone now. Interesting.

Looks like he quit voluntarily since he had time to close his auctions.

  19. No, he got suspended, Ebay ends all the auctions and then suspend.

There was no Japan DCC. The obi is just Japanese language information placed outside the slipcase by the Japanese distributor, Yukimu. The problem is that counterfeiting would be pretty easy. The obis were placed around the sealed disc, and then the disc and obi were placed in a resealable plastic outer sleeve. So it would be fairly easy to color copy the obi, place it around a sealed DCC, and call the whole thing sealed as new.

I don't have one in front of me, but I think that those original Yukimu obis are perforated at the folds. This would be hard to counterfeit, but you can't see that on Ebay, I suppose.
