I just saw "28 Days Later" for the 1st time last night and it had that different ending after the credits. I was wondering if anyone else has seen it and your thoughts. I guess the happy ending is truer to a typical B-movie ending, but I'm really surprised that they didn't pick the darker ending. I thought it seemed truer to the rest of the flick. I still enjoyed the movie, but it felt like it could have been scarier. I'm also not a fan of movies shot digitally and then transfered to film.
I saw the movie Friday night and felt it succeeded in telling the story. However, there were a lot of plot devices I didn't really agree with and felt a bit disappointed by the end. The two story telling problems I had were to do with lack of ongoing info about the virus and also that everywhere these characters go they have such a big impact on other people's lives (problem with most films). I felt there were many opportunities for the film to explore and reveal more about "rage". For example, the infected soldier that the military chained up could been the perfect device to do this. It seems like this was lost at some point. 'Night of the Living Dead' was very successful at the slow reveal by using the TV newscasts to inform the characters (and us) with more and more info about the walking dead. It bothered me that the main characters (the heros) had such an impact on everyone and everything. It took away the attempt at reality in this movie. For example, instead of sneaking away from the soldiers' camp or perhaps killing a few of them they cause that whole "community" to cease to be. It doesn't work like that in life or even in great fiction. The reality is people really don't have that big an impact on others. Especially in the circumstances of these characters. I felt it would have been more powerful if they escaped and the camp still existed waiting for the next weary group to stop by and find salvation. Instead it became the silly "right conquers all' BS. I felt the alternate ending was okay but not worth my time waiting through the credits. I could've waited happily for the DVD (which was the case for Europe). I wasn't too thrilled with both endings. They were two extremes of positive and negative. I think I would've been happier if they used something in the middle kind of like the remake of 'The Thing'. We know their situation and tomorrow will bring another day.... Todd
