Mostly awful except Guns N Roses, but that album was 1989 for me, when they broke in Europe.

Pretty much when I started to not be interested in popular music. I was only 23 at the time!
I became interested again around 1992.

I was turning 20, and felt the same way....
..gave me a reason to give ample attention to the albums of Frank Zappa......which, in turn was a perfect time to 'get into' him.... with the second batch of CD's, and, the following year, his tour!

I graduated in 1987 and that is kind of my feeling as well. The OP obviously has a very different conception of "incredible" than I do

I was 3 in 1987 but have 2 much older brothers, so MTV and the radio was always on. My first ever favorite song was "Luka" by Suzanne Vega, which came out that year. I would get really excited whenever it came on. In retrospect, it's a bit weird that my first ever favorite song as a kid was about child abuse (of course I had no idea that's what it was about at 3!).

It is a very catchy song from Vega. Who wasn't generally known for her toe-tappers.

Have to say, all the original CDs from the pictures here sound great. Apart from "Whitney" of course.. I don't know what happened to that.

Looking over that list, I remember that they played that Private Domain song "Absolute Perfection" a lot. So much, that I even bought the album (it probably sold a few hundred if that). A song I really liked on this album was this one.

    Edit: I see it's at #100

    Wasn't S Express from 1987 ?
That sounded so futuristic when it came out. Great club dance tune.

What I remember about 1987 was going to J&R music in lower Manhattan to listen to techno and acid house in their stereo demonstration room. I was more of an indie person at the time and didn't frequent the dance clubs which seemed to attract the Robert Chambers types, but I'd go from time to time because the best music in the late 80's was definitely hip hop, house and techno
