    Hi Alexpop,
Thank you for welcoming me here. Avatar in 3D was one of the few movies I didn't mind wearing 3D glasses to watch. It was truly jaw drawing at times.

3D will take off when you don't need to wear hardware on your face to watch it. Right now, it's kind of novelty tech.

Well hopefully the existing 3D bd titles will still work.

Go to the proper optician and get your eye surfaces laser etched with left and right polarization and you are good to go. :)

I'm glad you guys seem to like the 3-D experience, but I couldn't deal with it for an entire movie... A five minute demonstration at the store was starting to give me a headache, so I can't even imagine watching an hour and a half to two hour movie like that...

I'm not sure I'd give it another try, but what you said does make sense...

I have The Wizard of Oz & Gravity in 3D, and regularly get 3D movies on Time-Warner On Demand. Just watched The Martian in 3D. If I have the option to watch something in 3D I'm going to do it.

Now I am hoping that Peter Jackson gets off of his butt and gives us The Lord of The Rings trilogy in 3D. If it can be done for The Wizard of Oz with mostly satisfactory results, no reason it can't be done for LOTR.

If 3D enhances the story, it makes sense.

Does no 3D blu-ray of the new Star Wars signal the death of this format (for home video)?

I guess I'll have to start looking for Scorsese's Living in the Material World (or is that Living in the 3D World?) at my local DVD store. :)

    The story is the story.
If a film is made with 3D in mind I want to watch as it was intended, assuming it's good in the first place.

There are good stories and well-made movies not requiring 3D to make them better.

3D will not make an inferior story and poorly-made movie better.

I'll stick with saying 3-D is just an added gimmick to make a few extra bucks... It was a gimmick in the 50s, and it still is today...

As far as your comment that 3-D won't make a bad movie better: I agree...

3D Blu-ray is reportedly due later this year.

I would rather have the 3D right now (and I saw it twice in theater 3D, once in XD, once in IMAX), but the situation is what it seems to be. The consumable "milk" might apply.

True that. But well done 3D can make an inferior movie worth watching.

Particular case in point, "Noah", which--while it never had 3D theatrical release in the U.S.--is available on Italian manufactured all-region Blu-ray with English audio and selectable English menu system. Once watched in 3D, it's even clear "Noah" was intended to be seen in 3D.

I just got done watching "Kiss Me Kate" starring Howard Keel and Kathleen Grayson from 1953 in 3D Blu-Ray. It's a really fun worthwhile investment for demonstrating your 3D player. This was an MGM musical that stressed the fact that it was in 3D. The actors throw stuff at you so that you really feel the 3D effects. It's a great look back from when even MGM thought that 3D was the future of movie-making that couldn't be stolen by television. Of course, this was the first and only major film from MGM before the gimmicky 3D was supplanted by Todd-AO or Cinemascope etc.
