Interesting choice of Grobschnitt. I know this is off-topic, but do you own this box set:

I'm just wondering how many different artists you've heard where you feel that only eight of them have 5-star albums.

I might be able to make a list of only eight artists who I feel don't have any 5-star albums.

I took a look at the albums I have loaded in my Walkman and chose those which I consider flow perfectly as albums without a wasted note. There are albums I consider masterpieces in spite of minor flaws (White Album, for instance), the following ones are, in my humble opinion, flawless.
As I don't have all my collection loaded in my portable device, I'm surely forgetting a couple of titles.
I have excluded Argentine and South American music because it will mean nothing to most of you, as well as jazz, because I have noticed this is mainly rock/pop-oriented. So, this is actually a partial list of my 5-star albums.

    A Night At The Opera
    , Queen
A Saucerful of Secrets, Pink Floyd
After The Gold Rush, Neil Young
    American Beauty, Grateful Dead
    Animals, Pink Floyd
Anthem of the Sun, Grateful Dead
    Arthur, The Kinks
    Beggars Banquet, The Rolling Stones
    Begin To Hope, Regina Spektor
Between The Buttons (UK), The Rolling Stones
    Black Sabbath, Black Sabbath
    Buffalo Springfield Again, Buffalo Springfield
Burnt Weeny Sandwich, The Mothers of Invention
    Close to the Edge, Yes
    Crime of the Century, Supertramp
Crosby, Stills & Nash, Crosby Stills & Nash
    Diamond Dogs, David Bowie

I love all (5) picks. I might add Jerry Lee Lewis at The Star Club. That record is like attending a rock n roll crime scene.

Their debut for sure will forever remain as a timeless 5 star masterpiece, besides having pioneered a whole new and innovative approach to Rock music back then when it was released. To me, one of the most iconic and influential debuts by a Rock band ever.

In that spirit, I would list Patsy Cline's early recordings, but those were on Four Star Records. Missed it by that much!:D

    I wholeheartedly agree.
Btw, reading your damn true signature phrase, it reminded me of delighting myself again with some spinnings of Rach's Concertos for Piano, sure 5 stars masterpieces too.

:righton: Rachmaninov was one of the greats for sure. All of three symphonies, the four piano concerti, the tone poems like Isle of the Dead, the chamber works like the piano trios and Cello Sonata, and the plethora of solo piano music he wrote is nothing short of amazing. Not to mention those choral works (w/ orchestral accompaniment) like The Bells and Spring to the purely a cappella All-Night Vigil. All sublime.

Hm, OK I'll have a try.
These are albums that I feel are important and totally enjoyable musically and that have absolutely no weak track or weakness in presentation and conception.

    The Velvet Underground And Nico
    Nina Simone Sings The Blues
    Sticky Fingers (Stones)
    L.A.M.F (The Heartbreakers)
    Rust Never Sleeps (Neil Young)
    New Gold Dream (Simple Minds)

    Jazz:
Kind Of Blue/E.S.P./In A Silent Way (Miles Davis)
    Gianbt Steps/A Love Supreme/Crescent (Coltrane)
Genius of Modern Music 1+2 (Thelonious Monk)
    Maiden Voyage (Herbie Hancock)
    Extrapolation (John McLaughlin)
    Adam's Apple (Wayne Shorter)

I think this is a cool and challenging question. While there are many albums I love and listen to all the time, a five-star album in my mind should be one without a clunker in the mix that I sit down and get completely wrapped up into from beginning to end. That list is fairly short for me:

    1. The Notorious Byrd Brothers - The Byrds
    2. Forever Changes - Love
    3. Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys
    4. John Wesley Harding - Bob Dylan
    5. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - Wilco
    6. By The Way, I Forgive You - Brandi Carlile
    7. Roses In The Snow - Emmylou Harris
    8. On The Beach - Neil Young
    9. Late For The Sky - Jackson Browne
    10. There's A Riot Goin' On - Sly & The Family Stone
    11. In A Silent Way - Miles Davis
    12. Talking Book - Stevie Wonder
    13. Ray Of Light - Madonna
    14. Sticky Fingers - The Rolling Stones

(This is not a ranked order.)

It's a joke I screwed up, because it was supposed to be the other guy's name, not yours. You commented on these items in his list:
    "ccr - pendulum
jesus and mary chain - pendulum"

So the joke, riffing off of the typo, was that he loves any album named Pendulum.
