While his songwriting gets much notice, his playing is just as incredible on this record. The bass lines, filling in for Ringo on drums, the Martha piano......wonderful stuff!

Anyone else think that George would have made a better job of that guitar track than Eric Clapton?

I'm actually catching up - now on page 1157 - and listening to the remix on Spotify (my thanks to whoever thought to mention it here). I've got to say, the vocals on Happiness is a Warm Gun just brought me to tears. OMFG! So beautiful!

Well, that was a magical experience. I didn't think I could love The Beatles more.

This is completely out of synch with the last few pages, but I just came across someone's misheard version of the lyrics to "I'm So Tired":
".... and curse the walls around me, I am such a stupid git."

I wonder how many would hear it that way if the lyrics weren't printed out. :D

Anyway, on a gloomier note, my box set won't arrive until Wednesday.

Wow, just finished round 1 with the super deluxe! It’s a WHITE Friday indeed :)

Just so much to absorb here, I think I’ll take some time to post detailed comments. But here are quick first impressions:

    - I played the complete Esher demos for the first time today and boy, how wonderful do they sound here! We’re so lucky that these demo tapes survived in such quality. Looking back, it’s crazy that Apple did not release these on back of the Anthology success during the MTV Unplugged era....would’ve sold millions!

    - The 2018 remix sounds good, very different approach to what they did for Pepper. The clarity on some of the tracks is stunning! It’s a different feel especially if the original stereo is etched in your brain, some of the “darker” moments may have been lost for more openness in the sound (if that made any sense :) )

    - The outtakes are definitely more interesting than what was released on Anthology 3 and better than what we got with Pepper 50. Lots of hits, some misses......it will take a while to soak all of this in.

Overall, great job by Apple - a very immersive White Album experience! Looking forward to everyone’s comments on this much awaited set and I’ll keep posting more thoughts as the listening continues.

Btw, not sure if anyone has posted this yet but I hear the bass/drums on Happiness Is A Warm Gun come in bit early on the remix.

On the original mix, the bass/drums kick in around 13 second mark. On the 2018 remix, the bass/drums start at 10 second mark and then same start as on the original kicks in at 13 second mark.

Sounds like a mixing mistake to me...

Ah. Isn't that the point though, to sound loud. It's not a Steely Dan track.........

It is, yes, but you should be able to crank it up without it all turning into a horrible mess :) This waveform is encouraging in that respect.

Did everyone catch Sir George Martin uttering the f-word to Paul after the Mother Nature's Son outtake? Paul just finishes a decent version, but certainly not THE take and asks up in the control what they think.n George says some of them are good, but on others h f-upped. In a nice way. Paul seems taken aback and asks if they are really listening and George says yes they are. Interesting dynamics, but nothing said in anger, perhaps a bit of frustration on Paul's part. Sir George is just being honest, but politely. Ron

Great to see, but it would really be nice to see a music critic like this talk more about the sound quality as well. No doubt we already know what a masterpiece this amazing album is, so when a classic like this gets this kind of treatment, talk more about the sound quality experience, both on vinyl as well as CD, but hell, we got Mikey Fremer for that I guess...as well as the wonderful folks on this marvelous thread!
