How many of us who were around in the '70s and '80s always saw the same records in the cutout bins of department stores, etc. I have a lot of stories and total recall of those days and even though I like a bargain, I got sick of seeing these titles in the bins everywhere..

One of my favorites is when and friend and I went to a local salvage place and I saw stacks of Joni Mitchell's Don Juan's Reckless Daughter that went at least 15 feet high. Why so many LOL?

Does anyone else have stories of records they saw all of the time?

Ringo's Rotogravure was a staple of the cutout bin.

No matter what Goodwill , Value Village or local thrift shop you walk into , you will always find a James Last album and REO Speedwagon's ' Hi Infidelity '.

Because there wasn’t too much radio airplay to promote sales...

The album also lacked a stand-out smash hit single...at least not akin to when Joni’s earlier singles “Help Me” and “Free Man In Paris” garnered numerous spins.

As a double LP, the retail list price was more expensive (by $2 or $3 more, I think...?)

Yep, and Joni's sales fell off after 1973/1974. I'd love to see how much Don Juan's eventually sold, I'm thinking maybe 200,000....

I'm in MD and for some reason during the peak cutout bins days, I rarely (if ever) saw any Columbia/CBS product. That was insane...Plenty of Warner related labels, MCA, ABC, Motown to make up for it....

Another Joni Mitchell album, “Hissing Of Summer Lawns”, was also a cutout bin dweller.

It was frequently seen hanging out with “Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter”.

Any of Alice Cooper's albums from Flush The Fashion to Da Da were all over the cutout bins in my area. Also the Ramones' Subterranean Jungle.

as a KISS fan, I know I saw a bunch of the solo albums from 78 in cut out bins, well 3 of the 4.

First Electronic album. A LOT of 90s DEVO, which is a mixed bag, admittedly. A ton of Bill Nelson, who I tried but never got into.

I'm 44, so my "cutout" bin memories get confused with my "resold at Warehouse" bin memories. But those three are solid.

$1 from a cutout bin at fisher big wheel in 80-81 (age 11-12). one of my favorites by them because of it.played it often :)

also as mentioned, Ringo's Rotogravure (never with the spy glass tho) and 3 of George Harrison's albums (I'll let you guess which ones :D) were mainstays in the early 80s in lower Michigan. Also I remember plenty of copies of Elton John's Blue Moves and A Single Man..

My first Prince purchase was from a cutout bin. Controversy Lp right around the time "Little Red Corvette" and 1999 were gaining momentum. I think it was $2.97 (?) at a K mart (?) in northern Indiana.

Anyway we made the mistake of stopping by my friend's house on the way to mine and his ahem straight laced mother saw the record and proceeded to look it over giving me the third degree reading the names of the tracks on the back of the album and yes, the poster was brought out (I had no idea there was a poster and was positively flummoxed) :D I think it was a few days before I was able to hear it, thankfully my R&B lovin Mom was also becoming a fan.
