Anyone know if there are any good Italian or other Euro, non-Morricone soundtrack CDs (from giallo/spaghetti western/horror/erotic/poliziotteschi movies) available, either as single artist compilations (like Luis Bacalov), or by various artists? Thanks.

If you like prog rock then you can try Goblin and their Profondo Rosso soundtrack. There is a ongoing thread on Goblin in the forum.

By the way I have never heard the word "poliziotteschi" in Italian even if Wikipedia claims it exists...

I have all 10 of the Easy Tempo compilations. All fantastic.

I can also recommend the soundtrack to the film Vampyros Lesbos.

Absolutely one of my favorite albums of all time. I take it for granted and just assume every soundtrack lover owns this. I'm probably very wrong. If anyone is as obsessed with the Vampyros Lesbos soundtrack as much as I then I urge you to track down The Vampires Of Dartmoore - Dracula's Music Cacinet. I like the Valerie And Her Week Of Wonders soundtrack as well.

The Vampires Of Dartmoore - Die Folterkammer Des Dr.Sex

I highly recommend the "Camille 2000" soundtrack if it's still in print.

There are (were?) also many giallo soundtracks released on CD by Bruno Nicolai.

IMO, that "soundtrack" doesn't seem as authentic as music for an actual film. Of course, there could be exceptions such as some of the music by Brian Eno.

One of my favorite film soundtracks of all time is by Piero Piccioni from the original Swept Away.

    Here is the theme song:

The track Turquoise from the same movie:

Piccioni also scored Wertmuller's Seduction of Mimi as well. This track typifies that brilliant/bizarre Italian soundtrack work that could be found on the giallo/westerns/political films etc so on....

    Il Dopolotta, a very weird and obviously Seventies sounding tune from the soundtrack;

There is a compilation of Piccioni's work from the Sixties called The Seduction of Piccioni that is pretty good.

Another good one. Morricone got all of the glory outside Italy because of the spaghetti westerns ,Cinema Paradiso and his American film work BUT Umiliani and Piccioni are Italian musical gods as well.

Another fact is that Ennio's catalogue has been constantly repackaged and reissued and there are hundreds of CDs, some more some less available. And some pricey ones, for sure.

Not always the same for others.

Another nice soundtrack is "Eva La Venere Selvaggia" by Roberto Pregadio

Those of you not familiar with Pregadio's work may have heard one of his best compositions: "Claudia" (from "Il medico e la studentessa"...)

Bruno Nicolai is well worth your time and effort to investigate. Digitmovies have released a good number of his soundtracks for gialli and the films of Jess Franco. Nicolai has finally begun to receive the praise he deserved. He conducted the majority of Morricone scores until a falling out w/Ennio in '74 during the scoring of MOSES (for reasons unknown).

One of my favorites ins the soundtrack to "The Ten Victim" by Piero Piccioni. If you like jazzy, off the wall sixties Italian music, piccioni is the man. I believe he wrote the infamous "nah, nah, nah, nah" that the muppets did so well - unless that was Piero Umiliani, who is great as well. don't even know what that song is called! I love Umiliani and Piccioni, Morricone bores me. He wasnt an avant garde explorer like these guys. But the tenth victim is his take on futuristic jazz (the tenth victim is a sic-fi film) with lots of strange noodling on the Hammond organ that borders between muzak and jazz. It's wonderful and strange and authentic 60s. It was an import cd and you mightwant to spend some time hunting down a cheaper copy than 50 bucks.

I got mine for the regular price about ten years ago,so I'm sure they're still around. And of course, watch The Tenth Victim just because it's a great film!

    Thanks for all the recommendations.
I have the movie, but no soundtrack yet (outside that track that appears in "Jackie Brown"), great music for sure...

Check Nino Rota; he worked a lot with Federico Fellini and with Francis Ford Coppola for The Godfather. Also, Armando Trovaioli did some great soundtracks too, particularly on films by Ettore Scola.

The music on Vampyros Lesbos is German, by Manfred Hubler and Siegi Schwab...awesome stuff! There's also another CD from the same series called Schulmadchen (OST to a soft-core porn flick) by Gerd Wilden & Orchestra.......I'm really interested in this Italian stuff, need to get some of these !!!!

Crippled Dick released these three comps back in the late '90s, and I enjoy all of them:

Beat at Cinecitta vol 3 features a lot of great soundtracks from one underrated Italian scorer, Armando Trovajoli.

I am a big fan of Marco Zamboni's 1976 sci-fi spectacular Roma '79, which features Spinal Tap bassist Derek Smalls as "Killer #1".

Not sure if he contributed to the soundtrack though.

He couldn't make it to the studio. He was...uhhh...caught up in something.
