Indeed, I know all generations claim their music is superior, but to have The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Carpenters, Elton, Queen and Led Zeppelin all in one chart, is pretty special. That's ignoring one of my all time favourite albums, Crime Of The Century and several other great albums. Very good days.:D:D

The best thing about these threads is discovering songs that I've never heard. I like all of the top 10 except Frank Mills? I didn't know that "Sultans of swing" was such a huge hit in the US

Post #561: I don't even know most of these songs! I do like Crazy Love and, um, In the Navy, and I do hate Old Time Rock and Roll, as I suspect do most of us. I can tolerate no. 1, I Will Survive and a few others.

Don't think I've ever heard of Misty Blue or Shannon or either artist

Favorites would be Welcome Back,Right Back To Where We Started From & the much maligned 70's classic Afternoon Delight!

Misty Blue was a hit here too.

The Rollers must have been approaching the end of their hit making days here.

    UK flops from this chart include;

    Welcome Back
    Sara Smile
    Happy Days
    Shannon
    Love Is Alive
    Shop Around

I wouldn't call 'Happy Days' a flop. It hit 31 on the UK chart. 'Sara Smile' got lots of airplay but just didn't get the sales for some strange reason. I liked 'Welcome Back' but I can't recall the TV Series that it was the theme to (Welcome Back Kotter) being shown in the UK until the early 80's.

31 was a flop back then. Even TOTP only acknowledged the top 30 in 1976.

As far as I can recall, Welcome Back Kotter wasn't shown here. At least in region.

    Let me start with . . .
    Got #1, 2, 4 - 7, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29 - 31, and 40. This year was the first of five summers I would spend in a summer camp in the Catskills section of upstate New York. And then from 1973 . . .
I have #1 - 9 (with #2 in the form of a first-issue yellow label with Epic "strobe" logo, and only Paul Vance credited as producer as opposed to him and co-writer Lee Pockriss; and #6 likewise on the yellow "strobe" label), 11 - 15, 18 - 26, 35 (I wonder how many people confused this Purple classic - the edited studio version of which I prefer, B.T.W., especially to the "live" version - with the WWII-era Zeke Clements composition recorded by Red Foley and Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys, among others), 36, and 38 - 40 (#39, as on the "green label").

    Of this chart, in my collection would be #1 - 3, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13 - 16, 24 (always preferred Mr. Benson's to the original by L.T.D., with all due respect), 29, and 30.

As for #32, more specifically the title thereof, I have this old query: If love is the answer, then what was the question?

Always a pleasure to see that name on album charts, and for such enjoyable work.

I think I've only got a handful of these songs on various compilations, but as preferred songs go, I'm obligated to give the spotlight to the pleasant little theme song to Laverne & Shirley, my favorite late 1970s sitcom.Gentlemen, lift a mug of Shotz (or milk and Pepsi) at the Pizza Bowl for Cyndi Grecco!

There's a lot of good stuff in this chart---several yacht rock classics including "Sara Smile" and "Moonlight Feels Right" as well as general anthems of the era from The Andrea True Connection, Fleetwood Mac, Thin Lizzy, Elvin Bishop and even Maxine Nightingale. An off-the-cuff analysis suggests that this particular week would have been worth listening to on American Top 40.

"What's it going to be, Mikey? You gonna take it to the streets?" --- Gino Balzarelli.

Didn't notice that one - love L&S and the theme is one of my favorite TV themes. Never knew it was a hit. Not surprising as both L&S and Happy Days were huge in '76

    Now here - in my collection are #1 - 4, 7, 8, 10 - 20, 22 - 27, 30, 34 and 36.

Am I the only one amongst us who, in terms of #36, prefers this - one of Ms. Flack's best-known hits - to the entirely different Bad Company number of the same title that turned up a year later? And as for #26, why do I get the feeling that it comes across on one level as an "answer" to Pink Floyd's "Money"?

Only 4 of the top 10 were UK hits of any kind. I didn't count Billy, Don't Be A Hero was that was a #1 for Paper Lace here. The other UK 'flops' were Gordon Lightfoot, Kool & the Gang, Anne Murray, Gladys Knight and ONJ (Boo!)
