Imagine a thread where classic headbangers gather and celebrate the joyous sound of this period! Crank it up!

let's extend it to the late 80's....this one is from '88

all i ask is no overtly satanic stuff! pentagram is borderline but because it's got a sense of humor i'll let it slide! Plus it's got a great open stripped down sound that is so cool.... but ideally, i'd like to celebrate the non satanic bands of that era. Someone could start another thread for the other stuff just to keep it clean and neat. There's so much good music from that era that walks all over generic modern rock and metal.....

    nice tones!

notice how that early to mid 70's scorps has a similar tone. just a bit leaner with a bit of upper mids. love both! ... any guitarist who gets old metal tone puts the gain limit on himself. One way to gauge success: If you can't get your lead rhythm and clean tones all from one amp, it's the wrong one!... you got to use the old gear or next best modern replicas.2 or 3 gain stages max and prefrably no gain pedals

to continue with the purple 6 degrees of separation idea, here's ronnies cousin with some choice riffage and the infamous rods gospel quire....ronnie from rainbow with ritchie. we could do an enitre thread just on the purple offshoots.....coverdale sykes ronnie, ritchie gillan etc that would be a long one!

Maybe call it "The Blackmore, Dio, Gillan & co. Album by Album thread? Covering everything from Elf to the upcoming Deep Purple album? I could dig it, but it would be a lot of work, certainly!

    Speaking of Dio...

it's right on the edge. early thin lizzy is in the same category, right around '74 though it all started to change and took on a bit more of an edge. but I agree that alice cooper tune is a classic and a forerunner for the classic metal/rock genre.

man listen to that tone!! unbelievable how all this classic rock is so rich in tone, compared to modern rock. not to mention the riffs and songs. so much better they used to be!

I've got so much stuff ripped to WAV I should upload on youtube. Is there any issue with copyrights I wonder?
