So, I found a bunch of 8-tracks a while back. One of them by the Seeds was pretty rare so I put it on ebay. I was clear in my ad I cannot test 8-tracks, I have no player but have been able to sell them untested before without issues. I accepted a substantially lower offer from him versus my asking price, it is very rare and he understood I did not test the 8-track when he bought it.

So he gets it, he then asks me to pay for a repair which I send paypal for to try and help but then after the repair guy gets it he says it's erased and now the buyer wants a refund.

What do you guys think? I never sold it as a tested 8-track and was willing to work with him but now he's expecting me to return an item where i was up front about the uncertain condition. Do you think ebay would side with a buyer in this case if he files a complaint?

Definitely not. He had someone "repair" it which means the so-called repair person could have erased it. It smells like a con job to me from the get go. What's the buyers feedback like?

  3. Generally, eBay sides with the buyer most of the time these days. Definitely look into the buyer's feedback if you can. There are many buyers looking to pull a fast one on sellers today, taking advantage of eBay's lax rules favoring them.

eBay is not at all friendly to sellers. I had a thorny issue with a buyer. eBay was no help to me whatsoever, even though I had photographic proof of the issue as well as decade of positive feedback. Lost several hundreds. Will not use them fo large deals anymore, CDs, books, dvds only these days. Still have to refund for the occasional cracked jewel box!

If return is mentioned in original listing then he HAS TO return for his refund. It's all In writing on listing page and upfront.

Returns within 14 days - buyer pays Return shipping. If that was stated then seller does not have to say a word.

Even if the item is defective? I wouldn't rely on that.

The returns are based on "buyer dissatisfied, returns within 7, 14, or 30 days. It does not get into reasons. Buyer gets to return item even if it is fully working and no issues. Buyer get to select reason for return from a drop down menu.

Returns are a given here, there need not be any dialogue with seller over a return. Buyer returns item, and as tracking says it arrived, buyer gets refund. What part of this is confusing?

If I were selling any kind of tape untested [I wouldn't do this] I would accept returns if the customer claimed the original content was erased. People erased commercial tapes all the time.

Yep, a wise person on the forums at ebay preached, "Don't sell something on eBay that you can't afford to lose." I took his advise for myself and have even given it to others.
