I have just received, in the mail, my (highly awaited) package. The 1st pressings of Beatles For Sale and Sgt. Pepper's.

Although I ordered the stereo versions, the dealer sent me the mono pressings. I guess that's okay because I plan to eventually have The Beatles in both mono and stereo.

On visual inspection, these LPs (graded EX-) are not too shabby. But, of course, the proof is in the listening.

This weekend then, I'll spin them and report back to the forum what I think. In the meantime, happy birthday to ... me!

And if you're happy and care to share the seller's name...I need a mono Oldies; upgrade mono Pepper; mono & stereo Yellow Sub; stereo PPM; stereo For Sale and stereo AHDN and then I got em all!! (UK, of course)

not to rain on your birthday parade, but beatles for sale is very common in UK mono, the stereo is much rarer and valuable. personally, I'd much rather have the Pepper mono, so I guess it's a wash:)
hopefully it didn't set you back too much.
    HAPPY BEATLE BIRTHDAY!

Neat records, eh?! Happy birthday! Just a thought, but since you originally ordered the stereo versions, maybe you could contact the seller and inquire about the mix-up. IMHO, the mono mix of "Sgt. Pepper's LHCB" is superior to the stereo mix...hang on to that. However, the mono mix of "Beatles For Sale" is no match for the stereo mix. The stereo mix is far superior. One would ordinarily pay quite a premium for a stereo version of any of the first five UK Beatles titles...especially the first four. Stereo pressings were still quite uncommon in the UK at that time and were far outnumbered by the mono pressings. If you paid a premium, you really oughta get AND hear what you paid for. The mono mix of "Beatles For Sale" is quite congested compared to the stereo mix. I don't mean to be a wet rag, but you should get what you ordered. :)

Gotta agree with Arin here, George; the mono Beatles For Sale mix sucks hard. The CD for me is unlistenable for that reason. Go stereo all the way. On the other hand, if you are dissatisfied with the mono Pepper, I would be happy to take it off of your hands...!:D
