Perhaps an Academy Award winning animated version? Alastair Sim strikes again as the voice of Scrooge:

I own and watch them all every Christmas.
My favorite is probably the Patrick Stewart one, and it may be most appealing live action for your children.
Both the 38 and 51 versions have been colorized and are available on DVD in both colorized and B&W versions. I know many people here hate colorization, but sometimes kids will only watch something in color, so there is that option for you.
    Other version include:
A Fred Flintstone Christmas Carol (pretty good, it is a story within a story, sort of like the previously mentioned Mr. Magoo version)
Vincent Price TV one. This is available on DVD but sometimes hard to find
Another one from TV in the 1950's starring Fredric March and Basil Rathbone.
Several cartoon versions of the story, such as the one in the video in the previous post.

Then there are the movies that are take-offs on the Christmas Carol Story.
An American Christmas Carol with Ralph Winkler
One Magic Christmas with Mary Steenburgen
    And lots of others.

I would go with Scrooged if you want to keep any finicky teens interested.

Always enjoyed the George C. Scott version best. A good combination of story and effects. I can buy Scott as Scrooge but Stewart not so much; he seemed to have been trying too hard.

The four listed in the 2nd post are the classic ones that tell the story as Charles Dickens wrote it and place it in the time period and location he wrote about.
The others, like Scrooged, One Magic Christmas, etc. are adaptations of the story, but change all the characters and the situations.

Thanks Dewey, I'll definitely go with one of those four. Leaning towards the Scott version.

George C. Scott's Scrooge is who pops into my mind when the name Ebeneezer Scrooge comes up.

Does anyone know which version shows Scrooge's chain being built in hell? That scene scared me as a kid, but I do not know which version it is.

I don't remember that but I did some searching and it appears that there's a "hell" scene in the Albert Finney movie Scrooge from 1970. I remember seeing that one in the theater and being terrified when the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come showed his "skull" face! :yikes::laugh:

Oh, I forgot to mention "Blackadder's Christmas Carol." It is NOT faithful to the original, but it's the most brilliant send-up of the story every produced!
