In this movie we are shown the pyramids. But we see them as they are today. In Moses' day they would have been NEW pyramids.

The pyramids were over a thousand years old at the time of Moses.

But they still would have been in better condition than what they are now.

Well, I guess Cecil B DeMille should have increased his production budget a thousand fold, and had newer looking pyramids constructed. Although, he would have been dead before they were finished.

I KNEW I'd seen this exact same thread before!

I guess a whole new generation needs to be educated on this point three years later.

  9. In 3 years I expect a new thread titled “did you ever notice the dilapidated pyramids in the 10 Commandments” from this OP.

Egyptologists who study the pyramids say when they were first completed, they has a smoother surface and were white.

Yep. Marble cap stones. The surface was completely smooth and white, and you couldn't climb the pyramids due to the outer stones being flush.

There's also an intriguing theory that the black meteorite that's set into the corner of the Kaaba in Mecca once adorned the top of the Great Pyramid.

Theres a Roger Corman movie, I forget which, that starts out with a wide pan of a undeveloped area, and then a voiceover says something like:

"In The Wilds Of The Yuccatan, Where The Mark Of Man Has Never Been Seen"....

The funny part is that up in the corner , you can see a highway with cars on it!!!!

No, actually they were quite new, but there was a "weathered look" fad at the time so they had swarms of worker slaves chiseling on them to make them LOOK old. A distant descendant of those architects came up with the "distressed jeans" idea.

Historically, Moses was around during about 1500 B.C. The Pyramids were finished around 2500 B.C. Come the F on. It's a MOVIE, not a documentary.

They did a neat job on the pyramids in 1999's version of 'The Mummy'. Think they were gleaming there...
I'm sure there were minarets in the Bethlehem background at the beginning of 'Ben Hur', and those Buddhist stupas in 'Kismet', :shake: :)

The "ancient Egypt" scenes in that film were the best moments in the entire movie.
