Gorgeous pop melody? Try the Old Grey Whistle Test version of Judee Sill's "The Kiss."
A knockout live rendition of a beautiful song.

An early example of Todd Rundgren's songwriting genius. One of his very finest. IMHO

Ever listen to The Marmalade version? They turn it into an upbeat pop song. I prefer the James taylor version, but I heard The Marmalade version first. I still love it. Carolina On My Mind

This is a great list of new songs to check out. We began the thread with a band from Canada, and as I read through and listened to other choices, I thought of this singer from The Great White North:

What a melody! It always gives me a happy feeling inside.

This is my all-time favorite pop melody. This whole thread could be devoted to Brian Wilson.

As soon as I saw the Beach Boys videos start popping up, I thought of this one that makes me feel positively giddy:

First person that comes to mind is Neil Diamond. I think it's hard to top his classic stuff for pure, simple, beautiful, memorable pop melody. Hard to pick just one example.

    Song Sung Blue
    Cracklin' Rosie
    Shilo
    Kentucky Woman
    I Am, I Said
    Cherry Cherry
    I'm A Believer
    Solitary Man

    the list goes on...

Man, so much great stuff on this thread so far! Petula Clark's "Downtown", Neil Diamond, and for pop, yeah, I'll take The Hollies over The Beatles...but I keep coming back to MTV/M2's 120 Minutes and Subterranean soon after the turn of the century, in some ways my all-time favorite source for pop.

That's where I first heard The La's "There She Goes", for example, certainly one of my all-time top 10, maybe top 5, pop tunes....but I think you all know that one, so instead, I'll add the first song that popped into my head as I was reading this thread, an utterly charming 2004 track from The Delays, "Nearer Than Heaven" (2004).
