Time to plug a local band's classic. I remember this from my kidhood, circa 1969,
Orpheus' "I Can't Find The Time (To Tell You)

Exactly. How does that change the melody of the original released version of the same song? Why specify that version, with the same notes and interaction with the chord progression, same key, everything. Now, imagine Chakka Kahn or Joanna Newsome or Tom Waits is singing the same song. How is the MELODY.

I think too many people are mistaking the criteria for this thread with just naming people they like or songs they like. In fact I'm waiting for various members to post the same two pictures of Linda Ronstadt and Susanna Hoffs they always post whenever anybody mentions female vocalists.

I've seen threads asking about favorite "beautiful" songs, and seen members who can't find one others might consider "beautiful", so they post some metal thrash, defending ignorance with "this is beautiful to me". Same thing in a thread about "ballads". Points for not stepping out of one's comfort zone, I suppose.

I find it hard not to think Crowded House when I hear pop & melody in the same sentence

A very nice version & there is much to love in Alex Chiltons vocals.
Not as urgent as the original & almost ruined for me by the totally unnecessary strings.

I'm a sucker for this lovely Carly Simon song. The piano and her vocals are sympatico!
