Active speakers and the MARANTZ M-CR611

I have a Rega Planar 3 turntable and a Schiit Mani preamp hooked up to a pair of Audioengine A5+ active speakers. If I add the MARANTZ M-CR611 cd player /streamer to my setup, will it behave as an amplifier? If so I will need to add passive speakers to my hypothetical setup and put the Audioengine in storage.

 

Your AEs aren't actives I'm afraid. And if you check the Marantz rear panel, see if there's a pre-out input. That'll let you use it without using the on-board amplifier.

 

Active or powered in the sense that I don't need a separate amplifier or receiver to play records on my Rega.

 

The Marantz has an audio out. Connect it and the Mani to a SYS volume control if you really like your speakers.
