Wow, sounds cool. Now if you did the quad mix, and included that on the SACD, that would be awesome. That, I would purchase.

Played this one to death as a young 'teen'. Thanks Steve and I can't wait as I was disappointed in the last remaster and keep going back to my original pressing.

I'm guessing one of the things on the tape might have been the unused piece from " Unfinished Suite " which ended up on the free flexi disc " Slick Black Limousine " issued with the NME in 1973. I would have loved to have heard that spliced in. " Have you ever had gasssssss before ". Brilliant!!

Usually I would baulk at what is being attempted here but I am looking forward to it as it is a " new " version we are hearing. The 2 disc remaster was just an ear bleeder.

I don't think the result is going to be quite as radical a departure as one might read into Steve's comments, I just think it'll be somewhat more obvious that these tracks have a variance in sound between them. But even if it is wildly different from what I've heard before, I'm still eager to hear it. This is a landmark album and it deserves the attention.

I have an original Warners green label LP. I always loved the intro to "Generation Landslide". The guitars really came alive and seemed to "dance" in my speakers!

The Rhino LP from a few years ago didn't have the same effect.. close , but not the same.

Can't wait to hear this one!

When I first stumbled upon this forum site, I couldn't believe that a well-known mastering engineer with so many big names and projects behind him actually took the time and effort to write about his work, share his views and give advice to us hungry audiophiles, music fans out there. Since then I have been visiting this forum site every day finding excellent write-ups and discussions. Thank you, Steve, for this and I wish we will have many similar remasters to look forward to.

    P.S. Great community!

Yeah, and how was the sound of it? Flat or crunchy......

Why don't you think so? There is an entire generation of tape hiss removed here, and new and different custom EQ for each track, and hi-rez sound for those with SACD players. I think that the potential for this to be radically (in a good way) different is rather strong.

"Elected" was recorded and released prior to the album for the '72 election. The version on the album is a different mix.

Can't wait for this one... count me in for 2 copies ;)

I wasn't trying to downplay the significance of the upgrade, I was just suggesting that this is going to be a significant upgrade in sound, but not a radical transformation like one would get in a remix. I don't think that in the end we're all going to pop in this disc and say, "Hey, this is like nothing I've ever heard before." Rather, I suspect it will be, "I've never heard it sound quite this good before."

It seems to me that Steve's approach is always, "Don't intentionally change the sound, but present it to its best effect." That's the context in which I interpret his comments.
