Afghan Whigs Guitarist Dave Rosser Dead at 50

Word has come from the Afghan Whigs’ Facebook page that guitarist Dave Rosser has died at age 50 from inoperable colon cancer.

Rosser was a relatively new addition to the band, joining for its reformation in 2014. He played on the new incarnation of the band’s two records for Sub Pop Do the Beast and In Spades. Prior to joining Afghan Whigs, Rosser collaborated with founder Greg Dulli in The Twilight Singers and The Gutter Twin, Dulli’s project with Mark Lanegan.

Very sad news but we knew it was coming. The tribute from Jeff Klein in my link is incredibly touching.

    RIP

Sad news indeed. That explains the heavy atmosphere at the recent Whigs concerts, which felt like a memorial even before Dave's passing. He seemed to be a genuinely good guy and a perfect, stable foil for guys like Greg and Mark Lanegan, which I'm sure has contributed greatly to their output since. I'll miss him, but will cherish the music he made.
