Incidentally, I just noticed the incoherence of my post from last evening. I had just stepped out of yoga, and was in an altered state, I guess.

It should've read something more like this:

Nice point. I myself grew up in Virginia, and have lived in L.A. since college.

Both locales are steeped in soul/African American culture. And the richer for it, imo.

I literally cut my teeth on Al Green as a kid in the '70's. My mother's love of the music was responsible for this. I've got vivid early memories of her driving me to my grandmothers' house in the mornings. And Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Aretha, Sly, etc. were all staples on the radio.

My mom instilled in me a deep love of this music, and I'm sure it will be with me as long as I live.

Larry Walsh did the early 90's Al Green CD's. I have the DCC Gold Greatest Hits and find that the Larry Walsh CD versions are also quite acceptable.
Would love to hear a good LP though.

Agreed, and ordinarily I would've bought more. But I truly dislike the twofer concept. I'm a purist about the integrity of the original album, and all that.

So I passed on some of the other titles that were paired.

What else has Walsh done? I'm not familiar with him.

Larry Walsh did the 1st CD releases of the Capitol Sinatra Catalog.

They did Greatest Hits, Greatest Hits Vol 2, the Belle Album, Live in Tokyo, Al Green Sings the Gospel, Command Performances. That's all I can remember offhand...

Sorry for not being clearer - what I wanted to know about was whether there were any more Al Green titles released in the 2 ALL TIME GREAT CLASSIC ALBUMS NOW DIGITALLY MASTERED ON 1 COMPACT DISC series other than the ones I have:

MCDO8018MD - Let's Stay Together/I'm Still In Love With You
    MCDO8040MD - Call Me/Livin' For You
MCDO8048MD - Al Green Is Love/Full Of Fire

I am aware of these single titles being released on CD by Motown (corrections/additions welcome!):

    Al Green Is Love
    Belle Album *
    Call Me
    Explores Your Mind *
Fourteen Greatest Hits - Compact Command Performances
    Full Of Fire
    Greatest Hits, Vol 1
    Greatest Hits, Vol 2
I'm Still In Love With You
    Let's Stay Together
    Livin' For You
    Sings Gospel *
    Tokyo Live *
    Truth 'n' Time *

I believe these were all released in the 80s except those denoted by * which were from the early 90s (released in conjuction with MCA).

If anyone knows of any other Motown 2-on-1 releases other than the ones I already have I'd love to know about them :agree:

I've seen a couple of the ones I already have listed with different catalogue numbers:

    MOTD-8140 - Call Me/Livin' For You
MOTD-8148 - Al Green Is Love/Full Of Fire

    :)

Are you implying that the mastering is different on the twofers? Didn't know that.

I'm not saying that - I have no idea. Although I have read other examples where people have talked about differences between Motown 2-fer CDs and the single album CD releases.

I was just wondering if Al's other 70s titles were releases on Motown 2-fer CDs in the 80s as I'd like to get them if they exist

Very 'modern'. Like the most recent CD remasters. The multichannel mixes are of interest for the collector, though.

I picked up the single disc Al Green: Call Me CD on Motown recently (catalog number is MOTD-5286). I like it quite a bit...it sounds closer to the DCC than the Right Stuff CD. I wonder if it has the same mastering as the 2fer described above?

I have just picked up a copy of Gets Next To You mastered by Larry Walsh. Possibly the best version I have heard of this disc. Sounds great on my system.

I've read these Motown CDs have certain flaws (e.g. reversed channels), however this is my favorite sound on CD. I've heard some Right Stuff, Demon and Fat Possum CDs, I'd say they sound different and worse. Unfortunately only 6 (of 12) albums were released on Motown, therefore I also keep UK Demon 4-albums-on-2-CD discs.

On my Motown GH CD (Compact Command Performances, MDM-6111 mastered by John Matousek) Al's vocals sound tinny as hell. Guess this is just one more DCC CD I'll have to track down.

Like others have said, the current remasters are awful. They are NR'd to death, the high end boosted and I remember noticing some stereo widening. Just terrible. Bob Norberg did them, so...yeah. In the case of wanting all the albums on cd, the Right Stuff issues are the way to go for now.

I have a CD of Al Green is Love with on Sony Records Japan. Anyone else heard of/have this release? It seems like the mastering might be unique to this disc, although I'm not sure yet.

    Hi,
I would buy these 2 cd album (Al Green - Love - The essential Al green (2003 pressing) and Al Green True Love The collection printed on 1999.

    How is the sound quality?

It has a nice soundstage and deep bass?

The Right Stuff CDs don't all sound the same. Before dumping it for the sublime DCC, I had the Inglot/Hersch-mastered Greatest Hits and it was much too trebly. However, I still have the Roght Stuff CD of Call Me (mastered by Phil Brown) and it sounds good.
