Al Stewart's 'Modern Times'

Beautiful album...so well crafted. It's my go to album in his catalog. Looking forward to seeing him in a couple of weeks...second row...should be awesome. So very underrated today...IMO.

 

I grew up near Brighton and knew the second-hand bookshops very well. I always assumed Al was referring to this one:



As for the girl in the raincoat, don’t ask...

 

I have a friend who once a year attends a guitar camp with Dave Nachmanoff who is Stewart’s current lead guitarist. This fall my friend put together a house concert with Dave and in a “what the hell, let’s ask” moment invited Al Stewart to come as well. He did and it was one of the best musical experiences I’ve ever had.

 

Complex, artistic, and yet real and on point lyrics and music.
