I didn't know that! Those are fantastic covers, too--hope you don't mind if I post: Baroness, "Red" Baroness, "Blue" Baroness, "Yellow"
Album covers done by musicians for their own albums: as in many examples above, sometimes it's great. But sometimes it looks like it's been done by a three years old discovering Microsoft Paint :
Here's a couple of more obscure examples I spotted at Amoeba the other day: cover by Mark Bieber cover by Michael Ryan Reinhart
Funny how similar this cover is to the one by RON Wood for John Baldry's Everything Stops For Tea (which doesn't qualify for the thread as Ron Wood does not play on the album). cover by Roy Wood
The Mothers' "Fillmore East, June 1971" was done by Frank Zappa, although designed by Cal Schenkel (FZ wrote on the back cover: "He made me do it")... (...Hope someone will post a picture for me! I am challenged with finding a good picture source with an URL address!)
Good one, ParloFax! Here it is: cover by Frank Zappa Don't forget that John Lennon took Zappa's cover and made his own version for his own Fillmore East disc.
Splendid! Thanks! ...Wait a minute. It's pretty hard to believe, but out of the millions of repros of this cover which pop up with Google Images, you picked exactly the one I had put in my "My images" folder and which I initially wanted to post for this thread (before realizing it didn't have a URL address)!! The German pressing... Scary!!
As far as picking the same cover image you had selected, well, it was a good size so that made it the choice for me. I always try to avoid images which are too small or too large, although sometimes I don't have that option.
4 pages on, and no mention of Robyn Hitchcock?!? I think almost all his catalog (along with the Egyptians, too) has his artwork, drawings, scribbles, penmanship, etc... And if the photos are not all his, I'm sure the concept has been filter through his idiosyncratic synapse system.
I believe the cover for Jimi Hendrix, Valleys of Neptune was based on a (watercolor?) picture he did as a teenager....
No, Laibach already posted a couple of Robyn Hitchcock album covers on the third page of this thread.
