Low-budget rap albums with bad covers is a thread all its own!

Worst for me has to be the Stones' Undercover. Put me off from listening to the album for a long time. Shame, as I actually really enjoyed a few of the tracks. Dirty Work and Emotional Rescue are also quite terrible.

boy, i tell ya, as a graphic designer myself, whose done a ton of cd packages for indie artists for a lotta years, it always amazes me when i see stuff like the Elton sleeve or even Big Bear...now I know artists have their own ideas, and as a designer, i try and accommodate them, but rarely dissuade the, but with EJ's status in the biz, couldn't someone have suggested something a tad.......better?????? For that Big Bear one, all i can think of is a bunch of guys hanging around talking how COOL it'd be to have chillin' bears on his cover...sadly, to me at least, the result is ......less so.

It seems obligatory to include Herbie Mann here.

Since I was fairly young at the time, I have to ask: was there some sort of cultural thing about men being shirtless in the 70's? There's tons of album covers from that era where shirts were apparently banned from the photo shoot. It would be one thing if the individuals in question had been hitting the gym regularly, but they usually look more like Herbie here. The effect is even worse when it's a group shot: [IMG]

That takes the cake for such a good album -- in an awful cover! Then theres inside the gatefold, which most people probably don't know about. The earliest versions had a fuzzy thing glued on before it got printed.

  22. I can't believe that with all that money Elton has never got that gap in his teeth fixed! As for the album cover, whoever was wielding the paint gun is one lousy shot. :)
