Marvelettes "Smash Hits" hastily and shoddily repackaged a year later. Note the misspelling of the groups's name in the V2, fer cryin' out loud:

Kim Mitchell "Akimbo Alogo" first pressings has him standing and holding a guitar. Later ones has him wearing a Ontario Provincial Police cap and lighting a smoke.

Here are some low res shots from the net. The original UK copy has the "smile" cover on the right. The US copy is on the left.

Bruce Hornsby And The Range. The first version with the light cover has a couple of different mixes too IIRC.

Aren't there also some different covers for Wish You Were Here?

    Original vinyl and CD

Though this is more of a variation than a totally different cover I was going to post The Who Tommy with the one that has the band images on the cover.

Did that original cover for "It Ain't Easy" actually make it out on to store shelves?

Regarding the Dire Straits example mentioned earlier, here is what the original LP of The Best Of The Wailers looks like:

    And here's the CD:

As can be seen they changed the background color from white to beige, oversaturated the middle image, and they also edited the beverleys logo and the tracklisting size. Not really a different cover but it doesn't look the original.

Soul Revolution also got the treatment:

    Original LP:

Rerelease by Trojan (which also meddles with the tracklisting a little).

This has to be the shoddiest cover Trojan has ever designed and makes you wonder why a new cover was even needed.

One more to add. The first cover was never actually released but was sent to websites when the album was up for pre-order.

    Early cover:

    Final cover:

I think the second cover is definitely an improvement as it's very reminiscent of the cover to their album Everybody Is Fantastic.

I didn't know about this, either--and it's one of my favorite albums ever!
