I can think of quite a few, but the NUMBER ONE album that blew me away was Aqualung! I had never heard anything like it.

The first Captain Beyond album. It was MUCH better--and more rocking--than I was expecting it to be.

The first one that totally blew me away from beginning to end, all killer-no filler was Rubber Soul(US version).

My buddy Doug put it on (this was back when it came out), played it loud and I was never the same ...

It was a compilation album - Queen Greatest Hits (the 2 LP edition). I was about 11 or 12 YO, and for about 6 months I was not able to listen to anything else, was so obsessed.

How about today? I spun Katy Lied by Steely Dan for the first time today, and it left me in awe...

Too many to mention, but the one that clearly stands out is:

    Isaac Hayes: Hot Buttered Soul

My friends and I listened to it seven times in a row one deliciously snowy afternoon in Vermont....thought that it was the greatest thing ever captured on tape.

    Wilco, Being There
    Lucinda Williams, Car Wheels....
    Nick Lowe, Labour Of Lust

    Dire Straits, Making Movies
    Joan Armatrading, S/T
    Eagles, Desperado
    Willie Nelson, Red Headed Stranger
    Cowboy Junkies, Trinity Session

So many, many, more but these lept out at me and in no way shape or form required a second listen to "get it". SOme were my first exposure to the artist (Hendrix, Nick Lowe, Lucinda, My Morning Jacket, Joan Armatrading, Cowboy Junkies)

Many fit this category but I was just thinking about the Psychedelic Furs self-titled. Back when I had money to blow I would occasionally buy an album simply because it looked cool. Thus the Furs s/t. Got home, put it on for a spin and was blown away!

Appetite For Destruction, all I heard was the music video Welcome To The Jungle on MTV and took a chance by buying the CD.
