There are always two in my mind and heart:

    1. Joy Division - 'Closer' (see avatar), the cold I can feel through the music, the despair in the singer's voice and the amazing drum and bass guitar finding their way through the songs... This album meant in the early 80's my start as a complete music freak....

    2. Slowdive - 'Pygmalion' (it's minimal music is so surrealistic, and there is such a great combination of the echoing minimal guitars and the fine male and female voices supporting the sweet melodies,... it bring me every time the shivers at my backbone):

I love early Spirit but have never heard the original mix of "The Family that Plays Together" I have the remastered CD with the bonus tracks and also Time Circle (which has a different remix of some of the tracks)
Is there a big difference ?

    Jean-Christian Michel - Requiem (1968, stereo)
Judd Proctor - Guitars Galore (Morgan label, stereo)

Cliff Richard & The Shadows - Cliff Sings EPs Nos 1 and 2 (1959, stereo)

I have numerous examples of each. I live in hope of finding perfect first pressings.

Apparently, the original stereo 2-track master tape (with the mix that I speak of) went missing after the first cutting. I don't have all of the information.
But...yes, it's different. If you enjoy the album, you will enjoy the 1996 CD mastering and re-mix.
Unfortunately, the new mix just doesn't have the psych feeling as the first mix. The first mix had atmosphere and mystique.
Find one...they are cheap and easily found online.
Some call the difference 'subtle'...if you like all the original moves on the faders that you get on the Ode pressing, you won't get that same vibe from the 1996 remasters.

Looks like I'm going to have to track one down. Probably not as easy or cheap to find in England but it's a great album and worth hearing it as it was intended.
    Thanks

While I'm on this thread I suppose I had better post one of my obsessions

    John Martyn - Solid Air

Had it on vinyl years ago before I went digital, bought the CD , bought the deluxe CD , and then last year bought it on vinyl again even though I didn't have a turntable any more.
Then had to go out and buy a turntable , somthing to put it on and of course a few other records to keep it company on the shelf.
If I had to get rid of all my music - this would be the last to go

The two standout albums in my collection are probably:

    Peter Gabriel - Us
    Depeche Mode - Violator

I might not listen to them on a weekly basis, but I have spun both from start to finish hundreds of times through the years.
