T Rex - Futuristic Dragon (I rank it up there with his other classics, and above the better-received Dandy in the Underworld)

I didn't realize Venus and Mars was not held in high regard. It is certainly better than Speed of Sound.

    Love it.

Also think half of OU812 is good to very good, but hate about a third of it.

Well, obviously I don't claim everyone in the world likes "Vitalogy", but I still think it's well-regarded in general and not a good fit for this thread...

I think "V&M" is largely liked. Viewed as a come-down after "BOTR" but I wouldn't view it as something "most people dislike".

Macca has plenty of other albums that fit the thread! :)

Anything by Zappa, don't know another single person who likes him. Strictly headphones for me, my wife hates his music!

I've got to agree with you, I absolutely adore "Dark At The End Of The Tunnel". Whilst I love the bands entire output, Dark is an album I never feel the need to skip over tracks on. "Long Breakdown", "Glory Be", "Skin" and "Try To Believe" are my stand out tracks on the album. It feels like the band are a bit more sombre, which certainly works to their credit. I believe the record company hated the album when it was delivered according to the book "Clowns Of Death". It's an album I never get tired of listening to.

Boingo 94 is a bit more hit and miss for me. I usually regard the original studio tracks as the definitive versions, some versions lack the magic of the original for me. However there's some versions, such as "Dead Mans Party" which far surpass the original. I love the original tracks "Mama" and "Winning Side" included on them. I know Mama was originally supposed to be on Boi-Ngo, but ended up left off (aside from the vinyl box set that included it as a single).

    We're the same!
I'm always like "how can "Dandy in the Underworld" be seen as a "return to form" when "Futuristic Dragon" came out before (and is better, at least to me)?". I love it. Writing an album like this and see it bomb because you're past your prime in terms of popularity must have hurt.
Bolan was such a poor seller in France that the album was only available as a UK import there at the time. I have a friend who was introduced to Bolan through this album and she loved it (of course, she lived in Paris where imported copies were not as hard to get, but I still told her she was lucky to have owned it it at the time).

THIS should have been a single.

Since were talking about albums we that we like and other people don't, the responses are no surprise.

Is "Clowns of Death" worth tracking down for some background on the band? Most of what I know is from a scattering of interviews and the odd Wiki article...

Oh, and I think you're mistaking Boingo '94 for Boingo Alive, which was a "live in studio" double album. Boingo '94 was their last album of original material before disbanding - also very good. And if you like somber Oingo Boingo, it'll be in your wheelhouse.

yeah, I always ranked it one notch below Band on the Run. When I got here, I saw people who think Wild Life blows Venus and Mars away.

About 10,000 of my albums, including nearly all of my jazz and classical collections, seem to be disliked by most people. At least the people I know, and the people who have overheard any of them.

Hissing of Summer Lawns is a masterwork (and a Prince fav too:))

I prefer "Hejira" (one of my fav album ever) but it's simply one of the gems of one of the great album run ever (Blue-For the Roses-Court & Spark-Hissing-Hejira-Don Juan...plus Shadows and Light and Mingus...stunning)

For me it was a breath of fresh air after the bombastic bonanza of BITUSA (record and tour)
His last very good album, imo

Thanks for the info about the incident.

Still not sure why you believe PJ never played South FL again. They played Fort Lauderdale 2 years after the incident!
