Alice Cooper‘s long-discussed covers album is taking its sweet time getting to record stores, but Cooper swears it’ll be worth the wait.
    ...
“We started going through the songs of who and what songs it would be,” recalled Cooper. “We said, ‘Oh, yeah. We’ve gotta do that.’” Once they got started, the guests “started showing up and saying, ‘Hey, I wanna play on that,’ and, ‘I wanna play on that.’”
So who exactly joined Alice? “I can’t tell you who’s on what right now, ’cause it’s not gonna be released yet, but it’s the ‘who’s who’ of everything,” he laughed. “It was one of those things where, at one point, I’m looking around in the studio and I’m going, ‘Holy crap! Look who’s in the studio.”

The hard core fans seem to be split on this. Some like the idea of the covers album, and others don't. I am trying to be optimistic, but this long wait is making me concerned. My fear is that Cooper's folks are being reluctant, and that this album sucks. I am trying to convince myself that the wait is due to the legalities of having numerous "guest stars" appear... royalties and what-not. Let's hope it's not because of the other thing.

I am curious about how the casual Alice fan feels about this.

I'll wait to hear it - it's not a must-buy for me. The idea doesn't thrill me however. His last album was quite successful in relative terms and I can't see that a covers album is going to do even as well as it did. If every track is as well-chosen and constructed as, say, "Talk Talk" from Flush The Fashion, it'll be great, but I imagine it's going to be "Love Me Two Times" and stuff like that, really familiar songs that he played on his last tour, and that really doesn't interest me.

As a hardcorefan I'm not thrilled about it but there are also 5 new songs on it. And any new album is good for me.

I'm down with just about anything Alice Cooper releases, but then again, I am hardly a casual fan. There was a pretty long wait between the time he started talking about Welcome 2 My Nightmare and when it finally came out, as well. This doesn't seem any diffferent to me, and I don't think it has anything to do with "the album sucking".

Because of the nature of this particular project, being that it's a covers album, it's not like he needs to rush to get it out there, anyway. In fact at this point in the game, I don't think Alice needs to do anything he doesn't feel like doing. He's done several tours over the last decade that were during times when he had no recent albums out to promote. He's got enough of a hit catalog that he can continue touring on that for as long as he chooses to, without even having to put out a new record. The fact that he's pretty much been on the road doing just that for the last three or so years has also been something that's been keeping him busy from getting this covers project completed, too.

I'm in -- especially since it purports to have Bob Ezrin's involvement.

Me too. It would be nice if a few of the original band members are on it.

Personally I think the idea stinks and I also though Nightmare 2 stunk.

Wish he'd get back to working on his "Night Shift" project that was supposed to follow up "Along Came A Spider" which was a great album IMO!

To be honest, completely underwhelming. I'd rather see all these old rich guys on a golf course than a stage at this point. Or at a local AA/CA meeting.

You may want to put "Alice Cooper" in the thread title so more people will take notice.

See? That's the thing. Like Tin Machine, I don't think that this is solely going to be a Alice Cooper project. They probably want the band's name to bear all of the weight. Soft White Underbelly, maybe? Perhaps a poke at trying to be some Wilburys? Whatever it is, I will be buying this for sure.
