It was, but I only had space for half of 1977’s #1’s.

Sad Sweet Dreamer was #1 in 1974. I haven’t done that year yet.

This was the UK Slik LP. It was released on CD a few years ago but seems to be OOP now.

I voted for none ... I appreciate Bohemian and Mamma Mia, but am sick of them. For the others, well :o

It's nearly as bad as "Kisses". I think the thing that really annoys me about TBOM is that they embarrassed the British nation on an international stage in Eurovision (and that record still brings shame to this day).
Anne-Marie David, Abba and Teach-In were all much more worthy winners. The British won without skill - it's the same as in the World Cup just now, only we were found out in the football.
Mbappe and Modric vs Raheem Sterling who can't hit a barn door with a banjo.

Anne-Marie David - Tu te reconnaîtras (Eurovision Song Contest 1973)

Teach In - Ding-A-Dong 1975 (Eurovision Song Contest) HQ

Not me. 77 was when I first started getting singles.

I didn’t actually mind Kisses. It was crap, but Eurovision songs were meant to be crap and sound like nothing else in the charts! My Sweet Rosalie was, on the other hand, atrocious. A weak copy of Kisses down to the ‘twist’ at the end. I think the only BOM single I really liked was Oh Boy (The Mood I’m In). Not a bad song and deserved it’s top 10 placing.

I liked the Teach In song, which I thought only I remembered!

I voted for 22 of these - really!

The exceptions were Slik, which I don't remember at all, No Charge and Save Your Kisses. I clearly have more of an affection for 70s easy listening than I realised, though I own none of these songs and don't think I'd ever buy any of them, apart from maybe the Abba ones.

As someone said previously said, Abba ruled the singles charts of 1976/77. :agree:

    Au contraire!
Who said was Eurovision meant to be crap? That's only a post-70s tradition imo. The Brotherhood of Man probably started it off.
You can have meaningless commercial pop hits that appeal to Europeans and are good, eg Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da or...er...um...actually...you can't. Scratch that.

You’ve included a single which only got to number two (Rod Stewart). It was God Save The Queen by the Sex Pistols that week. ;)

...Have Rod and Johnny Lydon ever met? Now, THAT would be a good moment for my projected doc - " Ere, you bloody wanker. you stole the #1 that me and the kids should've had! Gob on you!!!!!!!!!!:hurl:"
" Now, Johnny, dah-ling, don't take it all so seriously..."!

And ABBA wanted to record My Sweet Rosalie themselves, but Brotherhood Of Man were given the song over them.

Forever & Ever sounds like a Bay City Rollers song. Which it probably was meant to be until the group dropped their writers.:D

Here we go again, a common theme! Seem to be a lot of resentment carried for the last 41 years, and one I agree with.

According to a trusted source, well the dear old lady in the record shop, not far from the school gates, in Jubilee week, GSTQ was massively outselling Rod. Somehow, a young @Bobby Morrow convinced the people in power to ignore / lose many Pistols returns, saving the Monarchy and country the embarrassment of, "a song called His Save The Queen" being the real number one that infamous week.

    Arise Sir Bobby! :D

Forgot to say voted for all except Brotherhood Of Man, Demis and the truly frightening, No Charge.

In retrospect, it seems hard to put BOM and the second Forever And Ever in the same category as J.M. oops, J.J. Barrie, a song but even Bobby could bring himself to vote for.

Of course the original name of God Save The Queen, No Future, was written in direct response to No Charge. J.J. Barrie's No Charge, is the reason Punk was needed for the full three weeks it lasted!

Edit. I of course was delighted, that the incredible, Save All Your Kisses For Me, won the Eurovision song contest for the UK.

Despite entering every year, Cliff hasn't managed this. :D

More seriously, there were many very good songs in those years, and I don't have the same negativity as some.

Honestly, if I’d known the Sex Pistols were in danger of outselling Rod, I’d have bought 5 copies of the latter just for spite!*

    * No I wouldn’t. Couldn’t have afforded it in 1977...
