Recording could take a while but it's nice to know they've begun in early March . . . if that's what "Day 1" means.
Or maybe it’s just day one of getting the equipment together I just realized I was in high school when 10,000 came out. Damn.
Another studio update.... We now have visual confirmation of Tool in the studio, recording their new album
As much as I like them I will try not to listen any new song on the internet before the album comes out. Even if it gets available for free on Spotify (...) I'll wait for the CD. Buy it the day it gets available at the record store. Take it home. Open and savour the artwork. Listen to it from start to finish for the first time... Ahhh, how I miss that feeling.
Same. I've got a feeling this new one is going to be a monster of an album. I hope it gets a good vinyl pressing right on day & date.
I'm still blown away at their writing process. It's astonishing to me that the band has to do all the music first, then send them off to Maynard to do the lyrics. This is so counter to how most bands work. What's amazing is that the end result for Tool is so cohesive and makes so much sense that their songs sound as if Maynards vocals were a part of the process from the very beginning. Amazing band.
I don't think it's not so bad, though, because when they are working on music the thing to do is think about where a verse would go, a chorus, a pre-chorus, or whatever. I'm certain it has to be arranged that way. Then MJK can come in and takes his cues from the natural flow of the music. My question, really, is if they cut things, or play extra measures of MJK's vocals head in a different direction. In the age of protools, it should be fairly easy to edit.
According to Wikipedia, 10,000 Days was recorded between August and December 2005 and released in May 2006, so a 9 month period in total. Assuming the same timeline, we're looking at an early 2019 release or pssiblye later given Maynard's upcoming APC touring commitments.
I would imagine it's the only way they're able to work anymore. If they waited until Maynard showed up to start writing music it'd be another 10 years.
Metallica is the same way, riffs assembled into songs, lyrics come later. I think most hard rock/metal bands work in this manner it's not unusual at all.
