They were both from my hometown, Glen Rock, New Jersey. Same town as Lee Shapiro from the 70s Four Seasons.

Lee and I were very close for a while, but the Vivino's moved in about the same time I moved to Southern California. I first met them when the Fab Faux played at the Orpheum in LA. Their brother 'Uncle Floyd' was the MC at a reunion I went to back in 2010. He was very well known as well as a TV personality and also a great musician.

I liked Kimmel when he was Ben Stein's sidekick on Win Ben Stein's Money.

I liked the clip of Fallon playing Jim Morrison that Steve posted here a few years ago.

I liked Colbert when he was on The Daily Show.

I think all three are just awful as late night hosts.

They're mostly pretty bad... Letterman is missed. As for what's on now, I like Bill Maher and that's about it

Carson and Letterman were great for the time, but now I have the internet. What can compete with 'alway something new to hear', intelligent forums (like this one) and free porn?

Someone mentioned Jimmy Kimmel, but Colbert and Seth Meyers are even worse. Pathetic hosts and miserable people.

There was a remote bit during Conan's first or second season I believe at an airport in Texas that was absolutely hilarious.

Different venues, different stakes for the networks, different suits with their fingers in the pie. Sometimes even a change in suit jackets or glasses gets unintended reaction. But, change the suits and glasses they do, because, well, it looks like they're doing something proactive.

I was bored of late night talk shows by the time Conan arrived on the scene.

Have you ever seen him on TCM discussing classic films and actors with guests? Very intelligent.

Can some one enlighten me as to the source of the "creep," "gross" and "miserable" comments about Meyers, Colbert and Kimmel? Have they spit on orphans, kicked and old lady or been convicted of some crime I haven't heard about?

I knew back when Carson was on that if I flipped the channel, I was going to get a "MacMillen and Wife" or "Barnaby Jones" rerun. Now .......the options are so endless.

I wonder if a study has been done about what % of show watchers flip the channel and then come back during commercial breaks. Or even flip and never come back. Would it be more effective to have the host rattle off commercials like they did in the old days?

  17. I don't disagree with any of this.
No, but they are progressive thinkers who don't shy away from expressing their opinions during their shows. This is the root to much of the hate thrown their way.

I think one of them compared Hugh Heffner to Jack the Ripper on this forum, IIRC.

Meyers is a terrible talk-show host and interviewer, IMHO. Just painful. The only good segment is his A Closer Look as it goes back to his SNL roots with the Weekend Update which was the only segment I found he was good on that show.

Colbert's show seems awkward and showy and I despise the band leader and his intrusive pointless stupid piano noodling during interviews or monologues. He's a smart fellow but I sure wish the set didn't look like a lit up Christmas tree and that the band leader would put a sock in it.

Kimmel, I like... but I find his show to be rather dull most of the time and I don't see the fascination with Guillermo. Seems entirely pointless to me to have him there at all...

Conan is by far my favorite but even entire episodes can be a bit stale compared to his old show on NBC. Half the time, I don't even know the guest as I don't listen to pop music or care for most of today's movie actors but there are still fantastic bits like the Clueless Gamer which usually have me laughing quite hard.

I enjoy most of the current late night shows, but it's probably because I agree with most of the things they are saying.

I did. That one you linked to was the best. They actually very much had the spirit of Craig's show, I thought. The shows got more surreal by time they were using the CBS This Morning set. Whitmey Cumming's episode was surprisingly funny (I hated her sitcom), and Regis hosting Dave and Paul was cool too.
