    Actually....Wonderwall Music was his first.

Also, lest we forget, John Lennon/POB was preceded by Two Virgins, Life with the Lions, The Wedding Album and Live Peace in Toronto.

Yes...I thought of Lennon too, but thought better of not posting the "Two Virgins" album cover.

Not only an amazing first solo album, but my favorite album of all-time!

To be honest, all four of the 1978 Kiss solo albums are amazing first albums. And they might best be appreciated as a four-piece whole. Still, Paul's album is especially...sublime. Certainly to me anyways.

THAT maybe be the best of the bunch so far.

    Love it!

My personal top picks would be:
    1. George Harrison – All Things Must Pass
    2. Dennis Wilson – Pacific Ocean Blue
    3. John Lennon – Plastic Ono Band
    4. Jimi Hendrix – The Cry of Love (does this count?)
    5. Jack White – Blunderbuss
Even though All Things Must Pass, Plastic Ono Band and McCartney were all preceded by instrumental and/or experimental albums by their respective artists, I think they will always be remembered as their "real" solo debuts. What I find puzzling is when people try to pass off Ringo (1973) as Starr's solo debut.

As I recall those three were by John and Yoko so not solo albums exactly

Live Peace was credited to Plastic Ono Band not Lennon

I like your policing work here. But they are excellent first time out albums anyway. Let it pass. The TS did not give strict guidelines. Rickie Lee Jones, John Prine and Steve Forbert were certainly SOLO acts.

Released after Nesmith left the Monkees, the first of many excellent albums.

Only if you can explain the difference between a Frank Zappa album, a Mothers of Invention album, and a Mothers album. :D
