america homecoming.jpg Learned this today from our Host Steve Hoffman's Facebook page...he remastered the original first generation stereo tapes to DSD at Stephen Marsh's studio while Gus Skinas transferred the surround mix reels...no release date set as of yet, but will update this thread when this information is available!!!:goodie::wave:

Great news! Very excited. Wonder how it will compare to the DVDA. IIRC there were more America Quad mixes (Holidays?). Hope those are to follow...

The DVD-A is a must, Elliott did a wonderful mix.

I love this album now. Hadn't heard it since like 1972 until last month. Now I play it every day, call me crazy.

Thanks to Audio Fidelity for the best (!) America album. If it sounds like the debut.... it's another great mastering by our host!

More mellow sound, different engineer, musicians, studio, etc. More Wrecking Crew style, has Hal Blaine on drums and Joe Osborn on bass.

HOMECOMING was never officially released in Quad, although a mix was prepared. Will this be the debut of that mix or some kind of reduction of the Scheiner 5.1 mix?

This will be great. Used to have the fantastic DVD-A. Lost in a fire, so this opportunity to have it again in Hi-Rez is a no brainer. Audio Fidelity rules......... And, in Steve we trust. :righton:

A port of the 5.1 from the DVD-A.

Earth Wind and Fire's Open Our Eyes will be 4.0 quadraphonic.

I guess you will be very disappointed... believe me, i'm into multichannel before the begin of the third millennium and it's a dvd-a that very rarely change hands.
Moreover, the AF sacd has a old (and totally unknown until today) quad mix, the dvd-a is a 5.1 mix.

I don't call you crazy, it's the best America album. Had to shell out a lot of money in 1991 for the first CD release (Japan, of course...) and it is still totally worth it.
BTW, the AF release will be the only one that sound best without a OBI. :D

Okay, I don't see where either Steve...or Luke, who started the thread because of Steve's FB page, has used the word QUAD. Others brought it up.

So this AF title will actually be in 5.1? That'd be a first. And disappointing for those of us longing to hear the unreleased quad mix. I'll probably take a pass on this.

FWIW, Rockaway Records in L.A. had a copy of the DVD-A for $25 at the front counter yesterday (and other titles like NIGHTFLY at the same price).

Hope you had the possibility to listen the Elliott Schneider 5.1 dvd-a mix, it does really shine. Of course i would get also the 4.0 mix... heck, i love quads!

May i suggest something "out of the box", since AF is doing 4.0 sacd?
There's something that is out of the typical AF releases, cause:
    - it's german
    - it's electronic
but Kraftwerk has a 4.0 mix of Autobahn.
It has been released in quad ONLY in USA as a quad 8 track, of the 7 Mercury-related quads it's the only one that had NO Japan CD-4 release (4 BTO and 2 Ohio Players).

    It's been (correctly) edited.

BS&T's Child Is Father to the Man SACD contains Al Kooper's 5.1 mix. The Grover Washington Winelight SACD is 5.1 as well.

" It " being his FB page ? I have no idea, since I can't see the posting for myself there, which also means I still have no clue if the Official word is quad, or 5.1.

True, but it was a previously unreleased mix which is what I was hoping for HOMECOMING.
