This is a sad day for me.
Growing up in North Carolina as a kid his show was a must watch every week,
    even the color episodes.

It was a source of pride for Greensboro (where i lived)
that his "What It Was , Was Football" was recorded there.

TCM is doing a tribute (as posted earlier) Wednesday night.
If you haven't seen "A Face In The Crowd", do yourself a favor and watch it.
If you have seen it, watch it again.
It is some of Mr. Griffith's finest work.

    R.I.P.

Andy Griffith only passed away a few hours ago -- but TMZ has learned, the Hollywood icon has already been buried.

A rep for Twiford Funeral Homes in Manteo, North Carolina tells us, Andy was buried at 11:30 AM on his family farm on Roanoke Island. We're told Andy had previously requested to be buried immediately after his death ... so that's why it all happened so fast.

We made calls to find out if Andy was embalmed. No one was talking, but we're told it's legal in North Carolina to bury people without embalming them.

We're told Andy's burial followed a small, private service with close friends and family in attendance.

    Andy was 86.

The American Originals CD is a must have for all of your collections, the same with the Andy Griffith Show soundtrack CD. This is all timeless material.

A cultural staple in America. Everybody knew Andy Griffith. He was on darn near every TV set in every home across the nation for years. As big a name as it gets. He hit a common chord - and it wasn't playing to the lowest denominator.

    RIP, Andy Griffith.

I agree that Andy did not have to play to the lowest common demoninator to make it into iconic status. All he had to do was be real and be himself.

Check out the flick "Waitress" - I think it was his last film.

I believe only Jim Nabors (Gomer) and Ron Howard (Opie) are still alive, as far as the main cast from the original show.

It's amazing how convincing and real The Andy Griffith Show was: Mayberry seemed like a very real place, though the interiors were shot on a soundstage near the corner of Las Palmas and Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood (where I used to work for a couple of years), and the town streets were at a Culver City studio called "40 Acres":

I was always struck with the show by how you could absolutely believe you were glimpsing everyday life in a small town in North Carolina, and not a bunch of actors and technicians in Hollywood. Andy Griffith's casual, "aw, shucks" demeanor obscured a very fine actor who was much smarter and more sophisticated (and demanding) than a lot of people know.

I think George Lindsey just passed a month ago, too. Ken Barry from Mayberry RFD is still around, I think.

I recall watching the show at my first house in Santa Clara and when I was on the first ranch place I ever spent Summers on. And through the proceeding years, at all of the following places I lived on, Andy Griffith followed me everywhere. It was a show where I compared and contrasted the life which surrounded me. That half an hour was a nice little oasis to be stuck in while the calamity swirled around outside.

More than that. He did a lot more work than most people realize. I really enjoyed "Salvage One", too.

If no one has mentioned it he was born June 1 1926, exact same day as Marilyn Monroe. He lived one month short of fifty years longer.

Best thing I've read about Andy all day.

Every time I see this episode, The Loaded Goat, I double over in laughter.

(It's one of those that somehow lapsed into public domain...thus the missing theme song.)

AKA"What It Was,Was Football" done by a "Deacon Andy Griffith",his first 45,BTW,that originally was in two parts, then edited together for his Lp "Just For Laughs" at the request of Capitol. (his riotious takes on "Romeo & Juliet" and "Carmen Opera" are equally uproarious, too!)
