BTW, the melody of this Archipelago track reminds me heavily of Kate Bush's choir bit on "Hello Earth" (starting at 3:15).

Now listen to "Archipelago" again (especially after 3:05).

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCQgPFLLipY#at=262

I wonder if this is some older melody altogether.

I wish it wasn't just a one off. Eventually I'll checkout other albums by the group members. The title track is in my top 20 favorite songs.
I does sound similar. Googling a little, I found a video of Hellow Earth with the blurb stating that the choral part is a Georgian folk song so it could be that Archipelago got it from the same source.

I do have The In Sound From Way Out and love it. Like that video too so The Mix Up is going on my list of albums to check out. I don't care for rap vocals so I haven't been able to really get into their other stuff.

After Ruckus, Galactic's vocalist left the group. They didn't put out another album for a few years and on the next one they put out. From the Corner to the Block, they collaborated with a bunch of hip hop/rap artists. If you're into rap, it's worth checking out.

I noticed that the K&D Sessions were available for streaming so I checked them out and ended up buying it. I received it yesterday. Listening to Peace Orchestra now and liking it. It's funny that I start a thread to turn people on to music I love and I end up buying albums because of it.

It really did shake my headphones. I doubt I'll ever be able to listen without headphones. I won't at work with that much bass. My wife usually doesn't like any of my music, so I rarely can listen without headphones at home either. I really don't own a good speaker set up anymore anyway since it's been so long since I could use one.

A great acoustic guitar album, four songs each by three great guitarists. I haven't heard any other Peter Lang but his four songs on this album. Kottke and Fahey have other albums on this list, and a few that are just outside my top 100.

This is on the Takoma label that Fahey's founded in the late 50s. Leo Kottke's 6 and 12 String Guitars was the labels biggest hit and this was put out after that to give more exposure to Fahey and Lang. If you're a fan of finger picking guitar, it's well worth looking into this album.

Videos are hard to find for the tracks on this album. Fahey's tracks are all rerecordings of earlier songs and the earlier songs are what come up in searches. The same with two of Kotkke's. I was able to find one of Kottke's songs and two of Lang's, plus live versions of two more of Lang's songs.

The second Indian fusion album on my list. This is a wonderful album. I played it to death in the 80s and bought it was one of the first CDs I bought. Sheila Chandar is the singer on the album and she's what makes it great.

For Beatles fans, this has a great cover of Tomorrow Never Knows, though not as good as the original.

Because of looking this up now, I see that the album was rereleased in the 90s with bonus tracks, so I've just bought another album because of the list.

I could find videos for all of the tracks on the original album except Kashmir. The lyrics can be a little sappy but the music and singing is great.

Yet another downtempo album. This is another local band on the ESL label. I'm not exactly sure how I heard of them. Possibly on Pandora or ESL's web site. ESL's web site used to let you listen to some full tracks, they don't any more.

This band takes their inspiration from 70s movie music, in this album's case blaxploitation movie music. Not all of the tracks have that vibe, but quite a few do. Overall, the band really embraces the lounge music label.

Heart of the Hustler - opening track and full on retro soul

Stereo Tonic - trip hop - official video with low sound levels. You'll need to crank it up, just remember to crank it back down afterwards.

If I made a list like this in the 80s, this would have been in my top 10. I didn't discover Osibisa until the mid 80s when I saw this and Woyaya, their other album with a Roger Dean cover, in a record store and bought them because of the cover. Both were among my top played albums for the next 15 years. This is slightly my favorite of the two.

The band was formed in London in 1969 with three Ghanaian musicians and three Caribbean musicians. I have a few more of their albums, but the quality really drops off after the first two. It looks like they put out a new album in 2009 with good samples. I'm planning on streaming it later. This album is available on both Spotify and MOG.

I couldn't find a lot of videos for this album

The Dawn - not labeled as live, but it sounds like a live intro that doesn't quite match the album, the music does though. Another video with low sound levels.

I'm not sure I need to write much for this album. The only thing that could be more of the usual suspects here would be The Beatles or Pet Sounds. I don't own all of The Who's albums, but of those that I own, this and Live at Leeds are the only ones I like every bit of it. The other albums all have bits and pieces I can live without, some albums a lot I can live without.

This is an electronica album with heavy Middle Eastern and South Asian influences. Two of the band members are Iranian and one American. They set medieval Persian and Sufi poetry to music. They sound a good bit like Ekova. I saw them at a free world music festival in Arlington, VA in 2006. Unfortunately, they decided to skip their sound check so played an abbreviated set due to equipment malfunction. What they did play was great.

    92. Earth - The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull (2008)
As I wrote on the first page, Earth is, or at was a drone doom metal band. From what I've read, they were the pioneers of the genre. In the mid 90s they disbanded. The band's leader bought the gun that Kurt Cobain used to commit suicide and was at a low point with drug addiction. They reformed in the mid 2000s. I'm not sure if metal fans would call what they're doing since they reformed. It's still drone based, but it doesn't have as hard an edge.

I discovered them when the album that's number 9 in the list, Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light, Vol. 1, came out in 2011. I fell in love with that album so much that I bought this one about a year ago. While, I don't like this as much as Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light, Vol. 1, it is still a great album.

Bill Frisell guests on three tracks.

    93. Sleepy Sun - Embrace (2009)

Sleepy Sun is a neo-psychedelic band out of San Franscisco. I discovered the band in a free sampler from the 2010 SXSW festival. The track was from their second album Fever which wasn't out yet, but I liked the track enough to buy this album. It was really a bit of a coin toss over which album to include on the list, this one or Fever. They're both great albums. Their third album is not as good.

If you like other neo-psychedelic bands such as Bardo Pond, Wooden Shjips, or Brightblack Morning Light, you'll probably like this band as well.

    94. The Raybeats - Guitar Beat (1981)

The Raybeats were an all instrumental, surf music band in the early 80s. They're a lot of fun. IMO they were parodying and paying homage to the 60s surf bands. It was all kind of a joke, but with great music and lots of energy. The CD reissue of this album has the tag line "America's Most Popular Combo". Funny thing to put on a band that only a few people know of. I saw them in concert, probably in 1983, at the 9:30 Club. They wore those cheezy, loud suits. They were a lounge revival act 10 years early. It was a great concert.

The bass player was one of the founding member of Los Straightjackets.

Until looking them up for this list, I never knew they put out another album. Unfortunately, both albums seem to be long out of print. It's a shame.
