There's a DVD collection coming out from WB this week called "The Best of Dr. Seuss". It includes the animated versions of "The Butter Battle Book" and "Daisy Headed Maisy", but best of all it includes the classic Bob Clampett cartoon of Dr. Seuss' "Horton Hatches the Egg". Some Amazon reviewer has already expressed their dismay at a throwaway gag where a character puts a gun to its head, so it looks like it's uncensored, too. :)

To recap, the list of WB DVDs with classic Looney tunes and Merrie Melodies, aside from the two dedicated collections, is now:
    • Adventures of Robin Hood (Katnip Kollege, Rabbit Hood, Robin Hood Daffy)
    • Treasure of the Sierra Madre (Hot Cross Bunny, 8 Ball Bunny)
    • Yankee Doodle Dandy (Bugs Bunny Gets the Boid, Yankee Doodle Bugs, Yankee Doodle Daffy)
    • To Have and Have Not (Bacall to Arms)
    • Dark Passage (Slick Hare)
    • The Best of Dr. Seuss (Horton Hatches the Egg)
Space Jam SE is a grey area as it contains 1988's "Bugs vs. Daffy: Battle of the Music Video Stars", which features lots of clips from lassic LT and MM shorts linked by truly horrible 1980s vintage animation (the audio production is arguably even worse than the animation, BTW). It's probably our only glance at a number of the classic B&W Porky Pig Looney Tunes on DVD for awhile, though. Space Jam SE also features the last cartoon short directed by Chuck Jones, "Another Froggy Evening", which is not a classic LT, but it's a lot better than most other modern WB shorts.

There's also the Chuck Jones documentary, Extremes and In-Betweens, which includes "Feed The Kitty" and "Duck Dodgers" in their entirety. Both are now available on the Golden Collection, of course, but still...

The Horton toon looks substantially improved vs. the previous "Golden Age of Looney Tunes" laserdisc. It is comparable to the LT Golden Collection DVD presentations, although with a bit more print wear than average for that set. It is the best I have ever seen it look by a wide margin.

    Regards,
