For those fans of classic TV- Tribune is launching a new Digital multi-cast channel on all there Tribune affiliates as well as areas that do not have Tribune affiliation.

    fyi:
If your local cable or satellite provider does not carry the channel- you can pick up via a digital TV with a OTA digital antenna or a SD TV with an OTA digital antenna with a digital converter box.

Cool...We don't get RTV OTA on a digital channel in my area yet, so I'm looking forward to this.:agree:

RTV? Rural TeleVision, I love that channel. :righton:

RTV is Retro Television. I think you were thinking of RFDTV, or "Rural Free Delivery Television." RFDTV, RTV -- Too dang confusing, FWIW.

HA! HA! HA! You're right, what was I thinking.

But RFD-TV does have programming that lives up to its name.

Fans of classic TV seem to have quite a few more choices these days:

    Antenna TV
    RTN (Retro TV)
    THIS TV (though mostly movies)
    AmericanLife
    The Hub (nighttime line-up)

....all trying to fill the void that Nick At Nite and TVLand left when they transitioned to 90's programming and reality shows.

Looks like AntennaTV is picking up a lot of the "Screen Gems/Columbia" stuff.

Cartoon fans will get a chance to see Columbia Pictures cartoons from the 30's through the 50's on a series called Tooned In that Jerry Beck pulled together. The shorts are from both Columbia's own studio, and the later UPA produced shorts.

TV Land started with shows like this, and it was great. Someone decided the demo was too old, and they ended up with recent shows like Everyone Loves Raymond.

I hope they stick with what they start with.

Although one show that AntennaTV will be running is The Benny Hill Show - which I presume is still non-SG/C.

The problem with these sub-channels is that they're horribly compressed, they often fattenize the picture (enlarge 4x3 aspect ratio to 16x9), and the picture looks awful. Not enough bits.

    This is a shame.

Interesting....I have no interest in the channel, but to see New York's WPIX as an affiliate would leave NY without a CW affiliate. Again, I don't watch that channel either, but I guess that's the official end of WPIX's affiliation with Warner. Annoying to see WNEP on there too.

This is a going to be multi-cast channel- 11.2 or 11.3 so the orig programming of WPIX is going no where- the CW remains even though its a Tribune owned station.

I'm confused how this works. I'm currently getting WPIX or CW on Cablevision. Am I going to be able to see this channel?

If cablevision decides to carry 11.2 or 11.3 then yes- If not then you can pick it up with an OTA digital antenna if you have a digital TV. If you only have a analog TV then you need both: A digital OTA antenna and a OTA digital converter box that are about $40.

Just moved into an apartment and decided to try rabbit ears as I did not want to give any $$ to comast.
And honestly, the rabbit ears gets all the local DC channels.

I'm beginning to think OTA channels are going to make a huge comeback.
One article was the owner of RTV who said 22% of everyone only watches tv on OTA.
If he can appeal to them, that's a big chunk of people.

And The Partridge Family! Granted I have all four seasons on DVD, it's still nice to see them in some form of syndication.

Alas, no Atlanta affiliate. Tribune no longer owns any properties in the market, having sold WATL and WGCL (formerly WGNX).

Even as a sub-channel, I'm all for any programing of classic OLD TV shows.

Thanks to Encore's Western channel, I am closing in on having the full
run of the Maverick series. A show I watched as a very young child,
but haven't seen in decades until this spring when I dropped Comcast
    and went with Dish Network.

I am hoping the Dish will be programing this new offering.

I e-mailed a question to Antenna TV thru their website,
    and I got a reply !

I really wasn't expecting to hear from them,
    but they answered my question
about being in the Jacksonville, Fla. market.
    (they're still working on it).

Thats nice of them to return my e-mail. :righton:
