I haven't played this in a long time, and had forgotten how many great songs are on it!

'The Tourist', 'Get It Right Next Time', 'The Way That You Do It', and 'Take The Money And Run' are some of my favorite GR tracks!

I was also glad to see he released a new (sorta) CD in 2009. I hope he's winning the battle against alcoholism.....:)

I've not heard it in a while but it's a cracking album indeed, in fact I'm going to pull it out now and give it a listen.

It's a pretty good album, stronger than "City to City" in my opinion, overall.

The follow up album "Snakes and Ladders" is a pretty good one also IMO.

I like Night Owl. And I'm right now listening to "North And South" for maybe the first time ever. I got it ages ago (vinyl) and don't know that I ever listened to it due to moving etc.

Very easygoing tunes, great for relaxing.

  7. 'Night Owl' is a good album, but stronger than 'City To City'?...not in my book. The original vinyl LP of 'Night Owl' was mastered by 'Wally', and sounds great!

  8. I agree, 'Snakes And Ladders' is good one.

A great one-two punch by Gerry. I love Night Owl.

Which CD has the best mastering of this album?

I have the Collectables 2 CD-er (with City To City) from a few years ago. That sounds good. It sounds un-remastered, which as we all know isn't always a bad thing!

This album is as good as City To City. Just doesn't quite have the killer single the latter had. Not a bad track on it, though.

    Certainly!

Is this the one you mean?

Had the two-fer and it's not bad, the best I have heard is the UK Liberty 746610 2 EMI Swindon.

Always preferred this one to "City To City". No killer single, but I feel it's more coherent.

I have the original UK EMI CDP 7 46610 2 - never felt the need to go looking for any other version.

Mine has a different sleeve, but it's probably the same issue. I can't send a picture as I don't have the option. However, the catalogue number is COL-CD-2919. It was printed in 2007. I'm sure the one you gave me the link to is just a later version.

Get it Right Next Time is my favorite song of his. A moody, atmospheric track that's life-affirming as well. Gerry Rafferty's approach sounded so fresh and cool at the time that his appeal crossed generational boundaries. Everyone liked him.

By the time I decided I wanted the album, this was long out of print. Have the original City To City though.

At least equal to City To City and has my favourite Rafferty track, 'Get it Right Next Time'.

Do you or anyone else know if it has the same mastering as the two-fer?

If not, can we get EAC numbers for both to confirm?
