Just wondering if there are any new Line Magnetic CD players on the horizon. I would think the 515 is due for an update.

That 515 sure looks tasty, but i can't rationalize the price tag att.

I'm not really sure what would be different about a new one. They could add more digital inputs I suppose, but that's what they make the 502CA for.

I was thinking of maybe an updated DAC for the 515. Mainly just thinking out loud. I'm currently on the hunt for a used 515, but just thought I'd inquire to see if anything else was in the pipeline.

I was thinking about that, but I feel brands that use the ESS9016 in their products do so for a reason. McIntosh has stuck with the 9016 as well. I think just as a lot of companies still use the Texas Instruments PCM1796 DAC that is ~15 years old because it was the last real Burr-Brown chip and they like its characteristics, the 9016 has similar appeal for brands that go for a less bright presentation.

Now, that's not to say that Line Magnetic might not be interested in another type of DAC, I just wouldn't look at the 9016 and assume it would be a logical progression for them to use whatever ESS' current model is the way Oppo would.

@Richard Austen Have you seen or heard anything about the 517 dac? The rumor was they were developing a dac that would have dsd capability....wonder if this is it?

These bad boys look nice, but how reliable are the CD players.

Any LM owners want to chime in?

Is it safe to assume the 505 would fall below the 515 in the LM hierarchy?

Been using their LM-215CD daily since Feb 2016 and not one hiccup.

Also haven't heard anyone really complaining about bad QC here. That said, I'm just one person. Just cause you find one old dude that still hasn't gotten cancer after 60 years of smoking, doesn't make it a healthy habit.

Own a LM-215CD CDP. Flawless play since bought a couple years ago. Had to get on a list for mine as only so many were shipped to the US.

My 215 CD player had the drive fail. I was told it was the same mechanism as the 515 but this turns out not to be the case. The 515 uses a Sony KSS 213 while the 215 uses a Sanyo. The Sanyo is cheap to replace though.

I have no details on any of the pictures - some may also only be Chinese market. There was a 205 CD player model so presumably these are 05s are cheaper versions of the 15s.

What were they asking for it?

I think it was $1300 (retail was $1800 if I remember correctly). Sorry you missed it Rolltide. Now that I know you are looking for one, I'll PM you if I see any in the future.

News to me about new products. Cool to see they have some in China right now.

I actually just ordered a CD 515. I was told they will ship in a couple weeks. The face plate I'm told is black. Not the gold I have seen pictures of. It was a little hard to find out where to get there products but I figured it out by emailing a gentlemen at tone imports then he directed me to perfect pitch audio in LA. I'm up north in Seattle.

I do wish the CD 515 had coaxial input but that's no biggie given it has USB and it's supposed to be a phenomenal disc player.

Congrats! That's interesting on the face plate. Do they not offer the Gold version anymore? That's the version I would get to match my 518. I wonder if they're heading towards black faceplates, as the new 508 apparently only comes in black in the US. It would be a shame, as the Gold is very striking.

Gold is basically now a special order color....still available but you have to wait a while to get one (I just sold one last week actually).
