Nice! I created a simple DC5 comp comprising all stereo tracks. It's really just the 1970 Regal comp with the subsequent #1 singles tacked on the end so nothing as elaborate as yours. Prolly took me longer to subtly tweak the artwork... 01 - Do You Love Me 02 - You've Got What It Takes 03 - Red Balloon 04 - Come Home 05 - Catch Us If You Can 06 - Bits And Pieces 07 - Everybody Knows 08 - Glad All Over 09 - Nineteen Days 10 - Because 11 - Blueberry Hill 12 - Try Too Hard 13 - Can't You See That She's Mine 14 - Live In The Sky 15 - Good Old Rock 'n' Roll* 16 - Put A Little Love In Your Heart* 17 - More Good Old Rock 'n' Roll* 18 - Everybody Get Together* *bonus tracks All taken from the 7 CD "Complete History" set with corrections to reversed channels, speed and clicks/pop removal by me.
Another labor of love when I had some free time (and more energy). A compilation from this gorgeous female vocalist best known for her work with the band SMITH. This "Best Of" features her first two excellent solo albums in their entirety. "One More Hour" (the third and final one) paled in comparison and the last track is the only one I included from it. The first four tracks are all Smith tracks. All but Track 3 were also 45 A-sides by Smith featuring Gayle's lead vocals. "Comin' Back to Me" for some reason is NOT on the Varese Sarabande "A Group Called Smith" CD as one of the bonus tracks and it was a single. Should've been a hit!! Basically a mainstream pop/rock band with hard rock and soul-influenced arrangements, Smith hit the Top Ten in 1969 with their drastically revised cover of the Shirelles' "Baby It's You." Featuring three lead singers and a B-3 Hammond organ, their strongest asset was their most frequent vocalist, Gayle McCormick, an accomplished female blue-eyed soul belter. Most of their material consisted of covers of popular rock and R&B tunes, and they broke up after a couple of albums, though the singles "What Am I Gonna Do" (co-written by Carole King) and "Take a Look Around" made the middle of the charts. (allmusic) After the group disbanded, McCormick went on to record three solo albums, "Gayle McCormick", "Flesh and Blood" and "One More Hour." In the fall of 1971, her performance of "It's a Cryin' Shame" charted at #44. She passed away in 2016. Her first solo album is excellent! Should have been big! In the midst of producing The Four Tops, Evie Sands and Dusty Springfield, Lambert and Potter were on a roll, providing a glossy Hollywood take on Northern Soul which makes even the songs you might think are too well trodden absolutely vital. Possibly the best ever version of 'Superstar' too and you know how good that means! FLESH AND BLOOD has a harder edge and has never seen release on CD. Again, an excellent album that met an undeserved fate. Great vocals and production and a sexy cover! How did this album not make more of a splash back in 1972? Any De-Clicking was done by me. I put together a "The Beatles Featuring John Lennon" compilation, it took four 80 minute CDs. But not enough room for "Revolution 9" maybe I'll put that on a 'best of' solo Lennon CD. I used all the songs that I knew Lennon wrote or was the primary writer and covers he sang lead and/or co-lead. My wife wanted me to make one for her featuring McCartney, so I did and it only used two and a half 80 minute CDs

Not recent, but another labor of love. The Honeycombs are remembered mainly for their Top 5 hit HAVE I THE RIGHT? They were a quirky British Invasion group with a female drummer and had a few other minor American hits. Their music was produced by legendary (and very quirky) producer Joe Meek. This CD-R fills an 80 minute CD with the absolute best of THE HONEYCOMBS! The best quality available of each track was used. They had greater success in the UK, Germany and Japan and I was surprised that I liked so many songs of theirs once I delved deeper into their catalog. I compared every available CD/version (there aren't a whole lot) and chose what I think is the best and definitely the best AUDIO and FIDELITY-wise. This is not a copy of some other particular CD. Great post, making cassettes is what I do,and if I do say so myself I've made some good ones down through the years[5 volumes of the temps anthology]..a nice[Brubeck] set...three volume[Marvin Gaye]set,some[Doo-Wop].
Since I made the Honeycombs one I have found some excellent DES stereo versions of HAVE I THE RIGHT? I had some at the time, but the later ones are REALLY good. Need to compare on my stereo. Have enough tracks to do another volume, but I was more enthusiastic then and had direct access to our extra computer (it has XP which supports my favorite cover software). My wife made me take it out of the adjacent room. "That's a guest room now." Maybe I'll just drop one track and add the best 'stereo' version as a bonus. Still can't find a free cover software that is as easy as CD COVER CREATOR PRO (GD Software). Just sent him a message, as we last were in contact in 2011!! Don't see it on their site.

Hey, great idea! Here are the career-spanning Petty playlists I compiled and have listened to obsessively since October. I'm a huge fan of his 1988-1999 stuff, and a casual fan of the rest, but what I love I really love. I'd have to trim each one by a couple of tracks to get them to CD length, but I can't bring myself to cut anything yet: Tom Petty: Best of 1973-1985 (26 songs, 1.5 hours) 01. Thanks to Spotify Weekly suggestions, I've been assembling a monthly compilation of music that is either "new to me", or something I forgot about. I can't tell you how nice it's been to get away from the same old (sorry Beatles!). I call it "Songs I Put In This Playlist Vol. X ). Vol 1 was heavy on 90s material because the first few things I listened to on Spotify happened to be from the 90s - so that's all the Spotify robot knew I wanted to hear. This is Vol 1, and it's pretty friggin' excellent: Everything Hits At Once - Spoon Autumn Sweater - Yo La Tengo Hallways - Islands Mockingbirds - Grant Lee Buffalo Anemone - Brian Jonestown Massacre Carry The Zero - Built To Spill Wave Of Mutilation (UK Surf) - Pixies I Know - Fiona Apple Blue - The Jayhawks The Ghost In You - Robyn Hitchcock Mother Of Pearl - Roxy Music California Stars - Wilco
I finally got this comp made; a couple of them were difficult to find in decent quality. It's titled Fogerty's Favorites, and it's songs mentioned in John Fogerty's recent 'Fortunate Son' autobiography in order of appearance in it's pages... 1 The El Dorados - At My Front Door 2 Billy Stewart - Billy's Blues (part 2) 3 Elvis Presley - My Baby Left Me 4 Pat Boone - Moody River 5 Carl Perkins - All Mama's Children 6 Jimmy Reed - Honest I Do 7 Bill Doggett - Honky Tonk (part 1&2) 8 Freddie King - Just Pickin' 9 Benny Goodman Sextet - Flying Home 10 Duane Eddy - Three-30-Blues 11 Rick Nelson - My Babe 12 Buddy Knox - I Think I'm Gonna Kill Myself 13 Chuck Berry - Deep Feeling 14 Ernie Freeman Combo - Lost Dreams 15 Jerry Butler & The Impressions - For Your Precious Love 16 Bobby 'Blue' Bland - Little Boy Blue 17 Webb Pierce - I Ain't Never 18 Lightnin' Hopkins - Mojo Hand 19 The 5 Royales - The Slummer The Slum 20 The Four Rivers - I Confess 21 Jimmy Dee & The Offbeats - Henrietta 22 Earl Grant - Fever 23 Jody Reynolds & The Storms - Endless Sleep 24 Ron Holden & The Thunderbirds - Love You So 25 Sal Mineo - Start Movin' (In My Direction) 26 Rockin' Rebels - Wild Weekend 27 John Cruz - Island Style Bonus: James Powell (& The Blue Velvets) - Beverly Angel (Christy Records)
I have been burning compilation cds for years now, and they comprise a big part of my cd collection. I limit the number of songs to 15, which is generally about an hour's worth of music so it serves as an egg timer if you're working around the house, or on road trips. So I do groups and artists of course, but I also do fun, quirky stuff -- like a cd with 25 different versions of "Louie Louie" by the following groups and artists -- from ballroom swing to moose lodge to garage band to full-on metal. It's a hoot and a half, I tell ya!
