I understand the Kinks are the Great Lost British Band of the 60s, I've only heard one song, I think it was called You Really Got me, which is supposed to be from 64 or so. Proto Heavy Metal, it also sounds kind punkish to my ears. I wish I could have copied the song, I only heard it once, back in 1979.
Does anyone know any thing more about them?

They had one more hit shortly after that one which sounded exactly the same.

Please tell me this is a leftover April Fool's gag!

Or, if you're under 40...welcome to the wonderful world of the Kinks! I'm not sure I'd start with SOAP OPERA ;) but if you search the forum you'll find about 234 threads on all of our favorite Kinks songs and albums from the early days, 70's LP's, and right on through the present day-vies.

    Kink Kronikles

My dear friend who's name has been added to the bottom of my tag line was the person who introduced me to The Kinks more than 20 years ago. For that alone, she deserved a medal.

Thank you for the days, Deb.

Really, you can't go wrong with any of their albums - especially during the years 1964-1984.

Actually, Soap Opera is a pretty good album. Once you get one Kinks album, you'll buy the rest.

Gee I don't know about that. The arena Kinks of the late 70s was a completely different animal to what went before. Depending on which era you start with you could well be disappointed with albums from the other eras. I know. I've got 'em all!

For the record, I love Soap Opera and the SACD is a substantial improvement over the Rhino.

Schoolboys In Disgrace - very underrated. 'No More Looking Back' is one of Ray's best exercises in lament.

I would say to get Kink Kronikles, Celluloid Heroes and Come Dancing THEN you'll end up with the whole catalog.

My 22 year old son discovered the Kinks a while back - I use to tell him his former band sometimes sounded like them or The Small Faces, depending......yet they hadn't heard these bands at the time they were together. Face To Face, Something Else, and Village Green Preservation are pop masterpieces. Seems like I've met a goodly number of 20-somethings who have 'discovered' them. Their sound is ...as Arlo Guthrie would put it.....comin' round on the gee-tar again........

Gee, I got this great, original idea: when we diskuss the Kinks we use "k" for "c"!

Today I feel the best way to get a first taste of the Kinks is "Lola ATM", the album.

    God save the Kinks!
