    Thanks for sharing.

Shame we have to wait so long over here in "the colonies." I still see no good reason for it, as there are shows who broadcast within 24 hours of each other on both sides of the pond.

I don't understand how they can broadcast Doctor Who the next day in America, but we have to wait until 2015 to get Abbey. It becomes a major pain to avoid spoilers with that long of a delay.

  3. My understanding is the delay is a U.S. PBS decision.

That's been my feeling as well. I think they're afraid to put it up against football.

I suppose that if it were on BBC America we'd get it almost simultaneously. It's a huge fund raising tool for PBS.

While we're airing grievances about this show, I will repeat that they ought to shoot it on film rather than digital, and also hire a better DP. Some of the cinematography has been pretty bad at times.

Screw that. I'm going to find some fan who'll post the BBC versions and watch those. PBS is crazy to make us wait 3 months! One month, I could handle.

Unfortunately, you're right. Part of the enjoyment of these shows, and this goes for HBO too, is the discussion online.

  9. Just get a VPN with access to a UK server, download the ITV player and you can watch the show within a day (I think) of its UK broadcast.

That reminds me of the episode of The Young Ones where the television licence inspector comes to visit. I just hope I don't have to eat my VPN.

You'll be waiting a long time for the BBC versions of Downton Abbey.

'Cause it's not a BBC show, it's on ITV.

Season 5 BD is currently $30 on Amazon:

That's probably about as low as it's going to get before the release date (1/27). If past seasons are any indication, it will have vastly superior picture quality to the PBS broadcast version. Plus you can binge-watch them before the season is even done airing.

I just binged the first four seasons in preparation for US broadcast of season five.

And that Text Santa video is hysterical!

Me too. I think it comes down to them not wanting to compete with football during the fall. Not sure how much of an overlap there is in the viewership, but that's my theory.

Christmas special on tonight. The rest of the Xmas TV is so bad it's the one thing I'm looking forward to today.

That's one thing that REALLY annoys me. We don't get the Christmas Special until long after the holidays have ended. We get the Doctor Who Christmas Special in time, but not the Downton Abbey one!

I suppose I cold fire up the VPN and watch it, but I don't want to see prior episodes spoiled.
