Last week we looked at Queen A Day at the Races and now... Night in the Ruts With Draw the Line, Aerosmith started to show some weaknesses. I was hoping the next one would bring them back to Rocks and Toys status. But it wasn't meant to be. The title fits. Joe Perry left the band mid- recording and that may have been a good thing. His guitar work on this album is the pits. I think I learned all the guitar parts myself in around three spins. He barely plays on this one. Steven Tyler sounds like he can barely get the vocals recorded. On some songs, he sounds like he is going to throw up mid verse. Low points. "Walking in the sand"-what a ridiculous vocal especially the final verses. "Think About It"-What a total destruction of a great Yardbirds tune. Tom and Joey sound like they totally could not care about keeping time. "Cheese Cake"-The dumbest lyrics they ever wrote. The drugs had taken over at this point and it shows that they could not handle them. A total disaster for such a talented band. Thank god they got sober. Anyone else who rarely listens to "Night in the Ruts" other than me?
