Thanks. I always say I owe a great deal of my education to Enid Lumley, God rest her soul. She was so far ahead of her time, saying that capacitors had a "sound." People in the business told Harry she was crazy - until it turned out she wasn't. I learned more about setup from her articles than anyone else's. The woman could hear.

I definitely concur. Thanks for your insights. I actually found some used DFE2's and I am using them now. Not sure I hear a difference, but have not really done a double blind. I recently got an Alpha HC and Analog, very quiet, but again I feel like I'm losing some groove.

I have tried raising my cables off the wall to wall carpet many times, in several houses and with lots of different cables and equipment, and with lots of different riser types. Bottom line: lifting the cables absolutely affects the sound quality, and every time I preferred the sound WITHOUT risers. Lifting the cables thins out the bass and makes the treble bright and glarey. At least that's been my experience.

My snakes sleeps on the floor.
But I do keep them separated.
Don't want any interacor.... eh... interaction between power snakes or signal snakes.

But since I exclusively run balanced slithers, lifting them will not make any change in transmission quality.
But I can see there being a possibly for a slight improvement if you were to run very long single end RCA across a floor with a lot of building power cables cast in to it.
Air is and has always been a good isolater of moving (AC)electric fields.
Static electric or DC current doess not interact the same way with cables because it is simply static.
Only a discharge would probably make a slight pop or a tick.
But in some occasions static fields will provide a good shielding against interacting AC current.

So no spend your money on better snakes and do some healthy waight lifting at the gym instead. That way you will be fit to take those heavy amps and speakers with you to the elderlyhome when the time comes :righton:

I try to keep AC lines as far away as possible from all other interconnects & speaker cables.

I also try not to cross over or touch any cable with another cable.

Basically I keep then all physically separated from each other and not touching any components metal cases or running under or by them.

As far as on the floor/carpet, mine are short enough as to allow them to run to the speakers and components without having to ever touch the floor. Given the major static shocks I get hit with in winter due to the carpet I would not think it would be a good idea to not have any cables in touch with the carpet.

I also keep all cables as short as only needed, no big loops of excess laying around.

Does it matter? I don't know, but it seems logical to me anyhow to do it that way.

I did speaker cables on carpet for the same reason. The method I use is to sandwich them between a couple of sand bags. I found a place online to buy some empty black canvas "bean bags" rectangular about 8" x 14" and filled them with sand. Aside from better confidence about avoiding static buildup, I noticed a tightening of the bass.

Curious question. Seems to imply that you think that 99.9% of people don't. What would make you think that?

If I didn't have hardwood floors, but had synthetic wall to wall carpet there is no way I would have my speaker cables on the floor. Only because I have experienced and saved a number of audio pals from the rice krispys that often occur. Obviously, if I had not heard it, moved them off and then heard it stop, (repeating just to confirm) I would not subscribe to random voodoo.

I have a little SRA Scuttle rack envy.:)

Carpet and area rug on floors so I have cable risers for speaker cables & ICs and ceramic risers for pwr cables.
BTW I did hear a difference, so can't go back.

So you lifted them off the floor and they speak the truth now?

On the floor here. I think the only issue one can have with this is a speaker cable running close/parallel to a power cable? May induce noise.

I would post some of the grossly exaggerated stories my cable tells about where its being laid but this is a family forum.

All of 'em all over the floor. I can't be bothered with teepee frames, blue glass power line insulators or whatever.

40+ years of having all wires and power cables on the floor, doubt I'll be changing anytime soon.

Indeed. IF I ever win the lottery I may spring for a set of lifters just out of curiosity. Personally, I think there's only a problem having cables on the floor if your carpet is so stactic-y you can see the sparks..................

Yes well I didnt either until someone said it can make a difference if they are not on a wood floor.. I have been trying to figure out why I dont have AS GOOD BASS as I had on my original sony unit.... I think its the sony unit itself but Im not 100% sure... (I have not been able to find anothwer one (same model) that is as good as my first one was)

Maybe it doesnt matter but I was gonna try taking the cord OFF THE FLOOR and watch a movie i dunno....... (If its the sony amp, obviously it wont help)
